Buying Mission Pack DLC for Co-op Multiplayer
Does every player involved need to own the DLC, or just the host?

Really if you have a group of friends and your only one hosting it, they can wait to buy it until inferno, inferno I would suggest everyone should own dlc for inferno dlc rooms, because it get real intense in missions. It is possible to play and beat them on inferno without dlc weapons but you would need to really really skilled to do that which I imply majority can't do.

Anyway this is a great time to buy dlc missions, I've been eye how often it goes on sale, and this is only 2nd time it has gone in sale in almost a year, who knows how often they'll put it on sale, I would highly recommend buying it now if you can, can't see it being any cheaper unless it goes on Humble bundle in 1-2 years from now.

In EDF 4.1 every person needs to own a DLC mission pack in order to join in them. For EDF 5, however, it seems as though only the host needs the DLC. I don't have any DLC for EDF 5 myself yet so I cannot confirm but here is what someone else has said in the past.

You can play the DLC, but you won't get the DLC weapons.

*Exceptions may apply. I received the DLC1 lightning bow before I bought it.

Just the host. However if you do not own the DLC you cannot use any of the new weapons. (If I interpret the message correctly they could still drop but cannot be equipped but so far none dropped for me so I cannot say for sure)

You have to play on dlc mission packs on inferno for them to drop, each pack has its own list of weapons, and they'll start dropping from even playing first mission of each pack, you'll get them right away with some level 80-90+ weapons. You can't get all of weapons from first missions but you'll get some most of them around mission 7-10 if I remember right.

One of my friends bit the bullet and grabbed the DLCs, so I can now confirm. All of us without the DLC are able to play and enjoy the missions. We even get regular non-DLC drops and armor just fine. But any of the DLC specific drops we cannot use unless we own it.

Kinda meh, but lots of things about EDF are kinda meh, so whatever.

its actually a pretty fair way 2 handle dlc content, pleb.

Follow-up question: are they worth it? Or some sort of necessary?

The pinned answer above seems pretty clear for the weapons, they're more powerful, not-quite-yet-almost necessary for only the hardest difficulty.

What about the mission packs? How much do they add to the game and how much did the game need or benefit from this extra content?

I'm considering buying multiple copies of the game. The DLCs, even with the bundle on sale, add a hefty bit to the cost. Still I haven't ruled out any possibility yet.

The DLC weapons are only necessary if you play the DLC themselves (and really not even that).
The new missions offer a couple dozen of extra challenges if you've already gotten all you could out of the base game.

Do not buy any of the DLCs other than mission packs.
Commander Llama Nov 26, 2020 @ 10:29am
I would say overall they are not really worth it. The base game has so many levels and difficulty settings. But I'm a "play for 20-40 hours and drop it" EDF player.
SimPlus Nov 27, 2020 @ 6:30pm
Sounds like it would be quite reasonable to give the base game a spin and if we really like it, I could buy the DLCs later.
Commander Llama Nov 27, 2020 @ 7:07pm
Yeah and the extreme mission packs are very challenging, so you will want to play the base game thru anyway

Am looking for Inferno DLC pack 1 allies, add me as a friend if interested.
