Farm missions with lots of high-tier enemies. Maybe there's some optimized strategy, but I'm not an expert.

Depends if you want to AFK farm or active farm. Active farming is easy, find missions with tons of enemies/spawners and play on easy.

AFK farming requires a mission with strong allies and spawners. I used mission 45, I think.
Kill all but one of the teleporter ships, grab the squads of fencers, sit under the ship where the ants fall, Wait. Occasionally pop back in to control crate buildup.

and the fencers won't die?

It’s mission number 40 that they are talking about. Switch to easy, kill everything except 1 ship. Go meet up with the 2 Fencer groups that they talk about. Then just go stand under the ship as the ants rain down, they barely even touch the ground before the fencers spear them to death.

If you’re ranger you can drop an item collect probe. If you’re raider you can get in a tank with wide collection radius. Otherwise you’re just collecting manually (don’t forget about the 256? Box map limit).

This is best used as an AFK farm for armour only.

Apparently, the limit for Armor Spawns on a map is 1000. This means, even if you let enemy spawners keep dropping ants, you're gonna run out of important drops sooner or later. I can't even imagine keeping a running tally in my head of 1000 armor pickups in a match... never mind the patience to bother to contrive it. However, it's really just a good idea not to farm armor. The longer you play, the more you will get, and eventually you'll have a huge load of it and be able to tackle Inferno Missions. Farming the Armor is a shortcut that will blow up in your face in most cases, but your best case scenario is that you decrease the amount of enjoyment and time you get to spend on the game. Most people simply need that time to figure out what strategies work best for them and have a good idea of what weapons are best for taking on specific kinds of enemies. Please notice.. you don't see people going "I played EDF 4.1, how can I beeline right to the endgame content". That's because playing through gives you valuble experience and intelligence on what to expect in given levels. Sometimes that intel gets thrown out the window, but still, it's helpful.

Personally, I think Plains of Conflict, mission number 37, is the best for ammassing armor and weapons... but you need to have someone dedicated to actually picking all that loot up while everyone else focuses on killing enemies. It's definitely NOT a good place to solo grind for loot, because there is no spawner.... it's just an open field and really old school Line up and Shoot Warfare.

The game is designed such that, as long as you are grabbing armor whenever it's easy, you'll slowly grow alongside the gameplay. And.... if you were a vet looking to bulk up, you'd already know how to do it. Grind. Grind. Grind. Because that's what you're going to be doing either way, whether you are trying to enjoy the game or exploit it.

Happy Hunting out there, whatever you decide is best for you.

Not on easy. Not even sure they can die on easy. Not that they give the enemy a chance to do anything.

Put it this way: While standing literally where the enemies land I would take around 2-3 hit points of damage every few waves.
Easy mode enemies seriously are that weak.
And even if you somehow manage to die? On easy you keep all your pickups.

It’s useless for weapons, unless you’ve got a real hankering for level 1-10 weaponry, but armor pickups don’t change based on the difficulty.

It’s slow but it’s easy. And doesn’t really require much gear or skill investment.

Alternatively, you could just cheat.
While I’m normally opposed to cheating in video games, skipping this kind of grind gets a pass. After all, you still have to do the hard missions to get weapons.

Oh NPC's can die on Easy, trust me (Luckily not from friendly Missl.... fire). And yes, i played EDF like its ment to be, easy first. And let me tell you, later on your "allies" die like the flies that they are.

Please don't cheat. If a cheater joins an another player's game it could screw up their save files.

How can I tell if my save files have been screwed up by a cheater? Is there any way to cure this?

There's a guide where you just park a tough tank or mech under the teleport ship, and go afk for while you sleep, and the tank will collect the ~1000 armor for you every night. Also, on easy you collect 100% of the loot when your tank inevitably blows up.

There's no such thing as "infected" save files, what are you even going on about

Actually, there is. Unlocking things that aren't supposed to be unlocked via manipulating loot tables is a thing a cheater can do. This ranges from items not fully implemented, to stuff from inferno difficulty after finishing mission 2 on easy. They can also forcibly grant like 100k armor to everyone in the lobby.

Then in 4.1 there were issues with cheaters straight up corrupting other people's files.

As far as I'm concerned the only 'acceptable' cheat that I've seen used in EDF, is the 'pick up all boxes' one when the cheater does it right before the mission fades to black. Has a solid cap on how much that can effect things, and only speeds progression a little bit.

At any rate, Armor farming is pointless. If you are having to rely on your armor values to survive, you need more practice, not to farm up more armor. If you are relying on farming up armor, you are going to be screwed if you join a multiplayer server with armor limits on.
I prefer to play solo, as a I did at 4.1, and the levels are not balanced. Some can get overwhelming, others too easy. Pehaps playing with specific classes and setups will help, but if you decide to stuck with just one class from the beginning, that is how you will feel.
Specially, when your ally AI have this bad habit of all fail at the end, leaving you to deal with a non stop spawning of enemies, and eventually getting surrounded.
So yeah, have more armor will help to balance things, when all depends on you. Even by being more careful and skilled, will depends of luck, of not having X many enemies harassing you, and health drops.

Meanwhile, I've played through both solo and with each class and can say that 9 times out of 10, such problems as you describe aren't actually luck based. They are more reliant to someone not bringing the right gear for the job, even if they are using a class not well suited for such an encounter.

Air raider will have the hardest time soloing, I think, but if you bring the right gear (and know the mission), you can still handle things just fine.
The "right gear" might not even had dropped.
