Second weapon just pick whichever you find fun or a second lance.
Hardest: Power Lance, Dragoon Lance, Great Plasma Cannon, Monster GA, Raijin
Inferno: Power Lance (Triple Lance), Dragoon Lance, Great Plasma Cannon, Monster, Thunder Crossbow
The Power Lance (including twin/triple variants) is bread-and-butter, so learn that before picking up anything else.
Wait, really? just playing with power lance and plasma and can barely do anything. maybe im using them wrong.
Curentlly using 5-way pulse machine gun and closed laser M3 and seems pretty good?
Unless all your lances are like, 0-3 in stats then I'm not sure what to tell you. Power Lances, Dragoon Lances and Phalanxes are utterly devastating and useful in almost every mission.
The Plasma cannons are pretty garbage for the most part. The rare exceptions are the level 15, 55 and 69 ones. Even then they are highly situational.
That being said, dragoon lance is honestly somewhat questionable against large groups of trash mobs and early lances are terrible (though you've completed ~75% of hard so you should have a decent one). basically you want to charge the lance while in the air, fire the lance, dash cancel the recovery and charge another shot without touching the ground. Only land where it's safe.
that being said, Hard difficulty cores kinda suck for altitude, but you can bring a plasma or thunder crossbow to hit anything high altitude until you get a quality core.
for hard, I really liked stardust cannon, it pretty much did everything for me most of the way up.
for cosmonauts (and most bugs), you can use a rapier or phalanx, or a thunder crossbow.
But yeah if you play online very generally you need to use weapons with high dps, funny enough a lot of these same high damage weapons in offline are just actually overkill damage and more costly
*edit* oh yeah, since you're just starting, thunder crossbow is basically your antiair.
thats because your situation is different. it will feel like that at first.
likely you have your 5 way pulse mg and closed m3 almost maxed with stars, but the lances and plasma cannons, monster, etc have low star ranks and use too much energy.
its fine to use those guns that have higher rank, but once the meta weapons rank up, start using those for less problems down the road.
