It would be the same error of Dynasty Warriors 9
Well it's not like EDF 5 has level design. It's just a couple of maps that approximate what certain environments should look like with aliens randomly thrown into them.
I mean that city map with the storm drain and train line running down the southern edge of it... How many times do you go on that specific map?
B) I am strongly opposed to your idea as a mainline game. As a spinoff, fine.
"Open world" doesn't just mean "not set in a building".
The thing is, though, that this is a style of game, like the Dynasty Warriors series, that does one specific thing, being putting players in specific scenarios in specific locations.
But that doesn't mean someone else couldn't come along and create a game of similar type, Horde-v-Power Fantasy character, in an openworld setting. I would like to see something with more objectives as an option, like defending particular buildings, saving citizens, where actually doing those things matters, all while still having gigantic horde fights in gigantic feeling locations. Just as a treat I would like to bring back more kaiju fighting giant robot or creature types controlled by the player with Robotic Alchemic Drive controls -as an option-. I loved that game and it is the origin point of the whole EDF series.
There's a lot of potential for this type of game and I'd like to see more developers explore it
