Ok, so collect everything. I've been collecting the boxes, but never knew if I was getting anything. You're right, gacha probably isn't the right word to use, but I was just trying to mean "random", I guess.
As for the outfits, I assume I just need to get further into the game?
You get new EDF main forces costumes for everyone around mission 12 or so and will spend the rest of your game in it.
However, you can unlock the old costumes that you wore in the first 12 stages after you beat the game. Once unlocked, you can go to class menu and press Y button (Joypad) to change outfits. Don't know what button it is on keyboard but it shows below which one so don't worry.
By picking up the Armor boxes you will increase your characters HP at the end of the level. It's not a 1/1 ratio though. Wing Divers HP gain takes more armor than the other classes. Fencer takes the least. The HP gain are spread across all classes with the bulk of them going to the class you played for the level.
Weapon boxes the green ones will award you random weapons at the end of the level. It's not completely random though. Depending on the difficulty and which level you are playing will determine which weapons you can potentially get. Such as level 5 on normal will give you random weapons between level 0 and 3. On Inferno though that same level will give you weapons between level 27 and 54. Also you have a higher chance of getting weapons for the class you played the level with.
Failing missions can prevent you from getting everything you picked up during the level. On easy you keep everything. On normal you will lose 25% of the drops, hard 50%, hardest 75%, and inferno you lose all of the drops.
For those of you who want to see the weapons levels available to you on each mission go to the link below. Just choose 'Drop Weapon' and a difficulty or online/offline then hit submit.
