Just want to share a little of this timeline

So, I just found out that the event happen in Earth Defense Force 5 is before Earth Defense Force 4.1's event. Maybe I'm the last one to know about this :)

Yes and no. EDF 5 takes place before EDF 6 (which sounds really dumb to say out loud, like "duh, obviously"). EDF 4.1 (2025) takes place after EDF 2017. EDF 5 is something of a reboot of 2017, which is kind of a reboot of the original EDF (Monster Attack I think).

Really? I only know about the game when Steam recommended to me in EDF 4.1 when EDF 5 is not released. So do search on the Wikipedia, it said that the event was happen in 2022 for EDF 5 and 2025 is for EDF 4.1. And I was surprised that the conversation in EDF 5, seems like it was the 1st time that they encounter Alien, monster and all. However in EDF 4.1, seems like they are already experienced it, and they also say that they have been preparing on their technology if they ever encounter Alien and Monster again.

Sorry, this is still kinda messing up my head for a newcomer like me, when I am trying to make sense of the timeline a little.

EDF is a pretty old series. It spawned on the newer gen systems back in the 360 days under the name EDF 2017. This was the year the game took place (Not the actual year) and the next game was EDF 2025, which is when the next attack happened. I believe 4.1 was originally 3.5 and revamped to 4.1 under the name shadow of new despair. EDF 5 is an entirely different timeline, a reboot if you will, so it doesn't have any connection to either story.

Remember, I said it is old and I mean before the 360 old. It was originally on the PS2 (If I remember correctly.) I do not recall the names of the games though.

Goes like this:

Timeline 1 (Insects are called Buggernauts, aliens are called Invaders)
EDF1 -> EDF2

EDF1 was known as Monster Attack in the west.
EDF2 was released as Global Defense Force in Europe only. Much later ported to PS VIta under Invaders From Planet Space.

Global Defense Force Tactics also takes place here.

Timeline 2 (Insects are called Giant Insects, aliens are called Ravagers)
EDF3 -> EDF4

EDF3 was released as Earth Defense Force 2017 in the west, later ported to PS Vita as EDF3 Portable.

EDF4 was released as Earth Defense Force 2025 in the west, later ported and upgraded as EDF4.1: Shadow of New Despair.

EDF4.1 Wing Diver Shooter takes place sometimes in early in EDF4.1.

Timeline 3 (Insects are called Monsters, aliens are called Primers)
EDF5

There's clearly going to be an EDF6 that will see another invasion in 5's universe, I'd be surprised if anything else happened. No other games have been released in that particular timeline.

Spinoff timeline (Insects and aliens are all called Ravagers)
EDF Insect Armageddon -> EDF Iron Rain

Earth gets invaded in EDF:IA, we see mothership appear. Gets shot down in IR's prologue by closer, then skip ahead.

These games are fairly loosely tied together, being made a very large number of years apart by different companies, but Yuke's still adopted some themes from IR like the title font and using America as their setting (IA uses east coast, IR uses west coast). The basic ants are smaller than in main EDFs and resemble eachother across the games, but if someone were to argue IA and IR are entirely seperate timelines I wouldn't argue back.

No other games games are made in spinoff settings.

TLDR: EDF 2017 and EDF 2025-4.1 are in the same timeline but EDF 5 is in it's own time line.
