Is there any alternative games but without insect theme?
I really like idea of the game about a lot of skills and content with a lot of ways to play, but i'm very insectophobic and araphnophobic. I hate even imagery of spiders. Is there anything like that worth picking up but without much insects? Or I feel I won't be able to sleep after session of that game.

I don't think there're any games like EDF. But as an aracnophobe i can say that after hundreds of hours of blasting spiders away i'm actually slightly better in that regard. :)

What better way to conquer your fear than to kill thousands of bugs and spiders in EDF. Even my therapist agreed.

Honestly after you kill your first thousands bugs you tend to shake your fear of them.

That would be by the 4th mission of this game.

Yes. Zangeki no Reginleiv for wii. Same developer.
I'd say it's even more fun than EDF. It's only in Japanese, but most stuff is intuitive. Has an english menu patch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4Q4dNgELq8
Buy a used wii if you don't have one, it's worth it.

This. Also severely arachnophobic and this game helped me get a bit better.

I find Helldivers to be a bit EDF adjacent despite being a top down shooter. You do fight some space bugs, but they don't look like any real bugs.

I always find the Musou games to scratch the same itch that EDF games do personally. Murder 1000's of things interspersed with stronger boss units. No spiders or bugs in those that I'm aware of.

Risk of Rain 2 is also good but remember... there is no level progression... its a play with 1 life game where the game keeps on getting difficult... but if you die... you gotta start over.
Levels are randomly generated. While it's fun... its not to my taste due to 2 reasons.
1 Visuals are good but i personally don't like the dark styled theme.
2 No levels like EDF where you slowly progress.
I've never found anything that mixes the scale of enemies, size of hordes, and sheer destruction of EDF. =( There are a number of horde games out there but they don't have the scale, destructible environments, and crazy weaponry.

There are a number of games that get the scale and destruction right without the hordes -- most of them seem to have also been written by Sandlot. xD

I can confirm that this is true, but sadly it really is only slightly better than before

The original "Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction" for the Ps2 and OG Xbox is a good third person shooter with Air Raider sized air support you can call in to level places. Alien Swarm and Hell Divers are good if you like shooting hordes of aliens in coop from a top down view, and you can call mechs down in Hell Divers. I know there are so more games I'm forgetting, but yeah keep this list going! I need more things to play!
