Stuck on mission 5?!?!?

I've been stuck on mission 5 for like 3 hours now. How in the world am I supposed to beat 500 ufo's with this weak early game gear. I've tried everything, any suggestions?

What class? I was Fencer and just hopped in place and spammed the chaingun.

just back up spraying them with the assault rifle as Ranger, I don't think they hit me once the entire mission...

First ranger shotgun you get will one-shot the air units on normal.

If you still have trouble try using the building for cover

Wing Diver can just annihilate them at close range

Main thing that kills me here is the forced camera.

At 11 o'clock from spawn is an apartment building. You can stand in the stairwell and shoot out of the windows and avoid almost all of the laser fire. As a ranger, I used snipers and assault rifles/shotguns to pick them off this way. Be aware there is a better place than this: somewhere on the map is a dark colored apartment building with a similar staircase, but it is only open on one side. I can't remember where that one is though.

This sounds like a bug that OP encountered. Mission Success is supposed to trigger, but didn't.

He clearly meant mission 6, where you do fight them all.

He clearly meant mission 6, where you do fight them all.

He could be making the mistake of playing Multiplayer by himself. Mission 5 is the air force mission for multiplayer as mission 1 in Singleplayer is purely tutorial

From the OP, how would he be stuck fighting ufos in a mission that there are no aggressive ufos?

OP is talking about mission 5 me and a buddy where stuck on that mission on hard as air raider and wing diver. UFOs just kept coming they eventually stopped after like 3 waves if OP is doing it alone on hard i can understand why all the frustration. Hell i was frustrated cuz i have no mobility and they would barrelstuff me and slow me with hits till i died.

Me and my friends also got our asses beat on that mission a few times. All you need to do is be a little ♥♥♥♥♥ and run away while shooting.

As ranger hide in the apartment building stairs, beat it on hard first try with that cheese bout third time overall(should work for diver'n raider as well, no idea 'bout Fencer)
