Ranger Vehicles
Is there something specific that needs to be done to unlock ranger vehicles?

I am collecting weapon and armor crates like crazy but I haven't unlocked a single ranger vehicle.

The game and multiple guides say there is, is it a part of the base game or am I mistaken?

First bike is apparently level 3. I don't have it yet and my Ranger has over 4000 armor, my bikes start at level 17.

Guess they are kinda rare.

RNG is RNG. Hate it, love it.

Ya, Ranger gets plenty of railguns, bikes and helicopters.

Idk about the other 2 but bikes yeah. Railguns are worthless now being on a class who has sniper rifles that are more effective (cost wise) and only Nereid is worth using on like 3 missions out of 130ish (including both DLC's). Most ranger vehicles are bad or worthless except the bike but only due to it's insane speed. Most missions are done better with one of the armor types or radar support.

Well... I wouldn't say the Railguns are USELESS. In my eyes, most of Ranger's Vehicles were never meant to flat out replace the Ranger's Ground-Combat Capabilities. I believe that, instead, they've been remade into simple additions to them. The Railguns, instead of how Air Raider used them back in 4.1, now simply act as extra bursts of long range damage alongside Ranger's other weapons. It can also be used for some decent protection against incoming enemies with its high armor rate.

This also goes for Ranger's other vehicles. The bikes, I think, were meant to act more as boosts to Ranger's Speed instead of an attack vehicle. They're likely better for getaways rather than charging into a battle.

The EMCs can keep a constant stream of fire going wherever you fire it for 1000 total rounds discharged with every burst, so that you can hop back out and blast bugs coming your way as the massive 100 Million Dollar Monster Truck takes care of a specific target.

The Nereids hold decent firepower this time around, and they're almost perfect for Airborne C-20 Bomb Cheese. And hey: Ranger got those bombs in question too.

And the Brutes? Those things are tanky enough, and have powerful enough guns with piercing rounds, to be able to solo the fight against Mothership No. 11 in the main campaign.

I don't think the Railguns are useless. To me, they just act as extensions of their capabilities. It's not EDF 4.1 anymore, and... well I don't know how to say this without sounding a bit rude but... maybe it's time for a change of mindset instead? Hopefully, you'll give them another chance.

I tried to BUT with the railguns doing a noticeable amount of lower damage compared to their EDF 4.1 counterparts they don't do enough damage for the credit cost of them. In 4.1 Railguns were suppost to be AR sniping weapon, but it just so happens to have 2 things Gigantus did not have. The railguns in EDF 4.1 had more armor and 2 machine guns for the trade of lower speed and a slower turret. If Epsilon armored railgun had less hp than Gigantus, no machine guns and a slightly higher price it would have been a more balanced vehicle. In EDF 5 with railguns being nerfed and put onto a class who has proper sniper rifles it's lost 98% of it's value from EDF 4.1. If ranger had the smoothbore blacker instead of the railgun it would be more useful since you get enough speed to outrun betas and not blow yourself up. If Air raider got the EDF 5 railguns as they are now I STILL would NOT use them due to the other downsides, Limpet snipers and air strikes being more viable.

Now EMC's are just like Titans. Large heavy vehicles with slow speed. The problem is that they don't have the armor to cover their weaknesses. Their damage output while high, have too many cost to cover up the downsides of being a supermassive vehicle.

I like Nereids being on ranger and I do believe this should be a ranger helicopter for 1 reason. It's a CQC helicopter and vehicles are not good at CQC so when a Nereid gets shot down the ranger piloting it can keep up firing without getting annihilated by a few bugs.

Brutes have always been mediocre to bad since they were introduced. Maybe if they healed and had fire power they maybe be useful.

railguns aren't useless. like gordon freeman said, they add to ranger's capabilities. yes ranger have proper sniper rifles, but there are some with lower rate of fire. in-between shots, you can get on the railgun and shoot. even if the fire rate is higher, its still worth it to enter the railgun for a little bit.

but it's fine not to use them i guess, take it slow and you can still win anyway.

Implies the brute needs more firepower, when its the literally the strongest vehicle in game outside of dlc1 Nix, yes it carries more damage than the EMC itself and the proteus and is far cheaper in cost as well. I'm sorry say this like this and I hope you someday forgive me for it but they don't need more firepower, what they actually need is a smarter person using it, that's it. The devs developed the brute what like 6 years ago, still even by today the thing still holds up to there idea of being vehicle almost no disadvantages. The choppers didn't get changed offensively because they were already strong as hell. Mobility means nothing to a chopper that can tank hits and is surrounded by men ready to protect it. If 1,150,000 damage per brute doesn't sound appealing to you, then I don't know what will. Imagine how long it would take to do 1,150,000 with lysander, fang, and ptarmigan. Its true that ranger falls behind in ranged combat on foot but not when he has his vehicle THE FLYING FORTRESS BRUTE and every single brute is good no such thing as a bad brute, the other classes just can't compete against its guns in fact I'm sure that was entirely the point to encourage your teammates to join on the fun with you in the other gunner seat. I warn you though it takes a skilled gunner to make those shots count at long range because there's this beautiful thing called balance. LASTLY AND MOST IMPORTANTLY don't call yourself an EDF soldier until you killed one of your own men walking in front of your brutes gun.

In case you didn't know the last railgun moves across the map in 50 secs and that's without firing for momentum. It takes 60secs for ranger to move across the map with Under Assist E3 which gives him 200% sprint speed. So the railgun is more useful than just firepower it also provides you with extra health that can take hits from wider variety of enemies as well having 2nd best speed with bike being first, bike being something you'd use to kite bees instead. If surviving is problem with vehicle consider bringing a reverser to keep it alive its well worth it and reversers can heal them very fast. In EDF5 that last railgun saids mobility was upgraded, in EDF4 it saids for that last railgun that its lacking mobility however I'm not sure if it was same speed as previous game but as always it is interesting to examine the description of weapons that the dev put in as that likely shows the intentions of vehicle the dev had for it. The level 78 Blacker that Air Raider has also shares same speed as 84 Railgun, so they are both meant to be used defensively against slower mob types like ants, spiders, and tank hits from likes such as small hits and drones etc... you get the point the right. Also good for having knockdown resistance against pill bugs and 0% stun resistance against everything. Ahh right unlike sprinting with the vest you can attack with the vehicle while your moving. I think that sums it all up.

I can possibly see hard, and hardest mode tricking you about vehicles but there still not bad on these difficulties. But on inferno vehicle usage quickly becomes more important for ranger much more so than previous diffculties at least if he wants to pull his own weight and not let some superior classes carry him hard on the stage.

I also apologize for my aggressive stance earlier as I realize you may have not played through most of the game like I have. But Brute is useful every difficulty and I mean that. Pitbull is least effective brute but its still good. Last Railgun is only railgun you may really need to consider like I said its one with 50sec speed, earlier ones are slower to point you can use Under Assist in Hardest and be faster until you get railgun in inferno.

EMC idk I kinda like them to kill mobs, Erginus and Arcules. Like I've fired it at mob of bees and it actually can kills them pretty fast as long as you got other people around to make them not focus entirely on you. It has large AoE on the hitbox of its ray attack so it can technically hit multiple things. I absolutely hate that the Air Raiders barrier walls can block its attacks, it seems sandlot didn't like the idea of EMC to be well protected going off by that observation. Can probably kill tadpoles flying in formation lines too.
