How does the game play at 60+ FPS?
WRC 7 has weird stuttering at 60+ FPS making it unplayable at high frame rates--and it was not particularly good at maintaining 60. How does WRC 8 play with FPS above 60? Smooth or filled with stutter?

I managed to fix my stuttering to very smooth all in game settings. For anyone aiming for 60FPS (high end PC's)

Display

Full Screen Borderless
Physics Simulation sync HIGH
V Sync -STANDARD

Graphics

Kept Texture on max (medium) then changed vegetation, crowd and water to medium everything else high, very high.

Post Process

SSAO - HIGH
Reflections- MEDIUM
AA- FXAA+TAA
DOF, Colour grading & Vignette OFF
Sharpen - LOW
Motion Blur OFF !

Then go into game settings (green menu on stage start) and change Camera settings (2nd menu) Camera Shake OFF.

I kept Dynamic FOV on and it is fine.

I haven't noticed hardly any difference graphically but now runs smooth as butter. I hope this helps anyone else having issues until a patch enables high settings without big FPS drops.

Edit: As an added note in Sounds menu the engine is default at only 60% I turned this up to 100% this makes a big difference to the engine sounds.

just wanted to say that had stutters from day one and this setup, I mean specifically the display setup mentioned by torque99uk, resolved completely the issue, now is finally smooth, no stutters at all anymore, yeah! thanks a lot mate. I generally use vsync on in nvcp, and disable ingame vsync and keep all games in fullscreen, but only this one needs borderless fulscreen and ingame vsync to work properly. then tune ingame details according to your performance rig. finally I can fully appreciate this great rally masterpiece, cheers!

gsync performance is killing the game for me. Why is it tearing ffs?

Extremely poor programming on the devs part.

You'll need to limit the frame rate to either 120fps or 60fps with a program such as Nvidia Inspector. As long as you don't dip below or go above either of those desired frame rates you won't have any stuttering/tearing. The game has to run locked at either 30, 60, or 120 fps though. There are no substitutes.

I left all graphics settings on high @ 1440p 144hz and just limited fps to 60. Runs smoothly. If I wanted to run a steady 120fps instead with no dips I had to turn too many graphics options down. Wasn't worth it for me.

It's very rare that I have to simply set a game aside because it's broken beyond all reasonable playability; WRC8 is, for me, one such game. Everything appears to work fine, apart from one game-killing detail: the continuous screen freeze/hanging which persists, no matter what settings I try out.

My PC: i7 8700K @ 3.70GHz 3696Mhz 6 cores, 12 logical processors
16GB DDR RAM
Nvidia GTX 1080 8GB

The game is borked for me. Nothing works - no 'fix', no fiddling about in Nvidia Control Panel, no attempt to change in-game settings - nothing. The game runs, then freezes/hangs, then catches up with itself and sends me straight into the nearest wall/off a cliff. At some point it becomes obvious that I shouldn't have to be wasting so much of my time trying to get a product I paid for in good faith to simply perform as advertised by its makers.

The very last time I buy one of these WRC games. WRC7, for all its issues, was at least playable.

Good point, you can mitigate the problem but is is always there.

It is interesting that a lot of the Milestone / Big Ben / KT share this issue, even if they do not use the same engine.

I have the same problem with Monster’s NASCAR Heat series.
It never runs 100% smooth, even at high frame rates.
And it often manages the ruin a race by having a bad stutter / freeze somewhere in the race.

So why do some games have this frame issue and others not?
It has to be poor design / optimization, else your system would have the same problem across the board, not only those particular games.

I have also noticed people stating having no issues, but if you look at YT footage you see the same drops as well, sometimes less pronounced or just as bad.

To me those drops are game ruining, I spend most of the time tweaking and if I play I keep noticing even if it is minimal and of course fume if it ruins a race.

KT’s games are finicky, drivers, settings, multi monitor settings etc, any setting can kick off a huge drop, next time it plays butter smooth.

Did you try downloading NVidia Inspector and limiting the global profile framerate to 60fps?

(This took 2 mins and solved all hanging and stuttering issues for me)

Thank you. I followed your advice (I didn't know about NVidia Inspector) and pleased to report everything in WRC 8 working perfectly now. No more frame drops or stutters, etc (and I'm running this sim on max settings across the board). Incredible, such a little thing but it's fixed the game. Very much appreciated!

Great! You can also try running @120fps if your system is powerful enough . WRC8 needs to hold either 30, 60, or 120fps to run properly. Anything between or above creates issues.

So another un-optimised pile of rubbish.

I was right not to buy it, wrc7 taught me that.

The actual engine is ♥♥♥♥♥

Same for wrc8 sadly.
I cap fps to 60 and no stutter (i use riva tuner). Over 60 fps and the stutters starts (its horrible). Low or high settings made no difference.
This game is optimized for 30fps (looks good in 30fps too) or 60fps (Better for PC gamers).
My monitor is 144hz (32:9 Samsung), 3840x1080 (GTX 1080ti, I7 4770k).
But i have to admit that WRC 8 is a great rally game. After so much bad WRC games since ps2 Times we have a good WRC game again.
My main issue in wrc 8 is the broken DSR like in TT the game. I can choose higher resolution but it just stretch and distort the Image. I need Downsampling to get better Anti aliasing because AA in this game is horrible too! but they will (im sure) never fix this... ;-) WRC 8 is a good rally game (simcade) but not at full price (max 30€), im sry that i payed on Exxx Store the full price for this (im raly fan).

Smooth like a baby's @ss :steamhappy:

For me it runs buttery smooth @ 144hz, , i may get a stutter or two in a 4 hour session.

I5 8600k
16GB Ram
RTX2070 (overclocked to 2080 levels)
49" Ultrawide 144hz freesync enabled.
Windows 10

All graphic settings on max.

Awesome game , love it , most fun you can have with your pants still on.
Imufur 2020년 1월 31일 오전 4시 38분
no stutters here, gtx1070, i7 7700, 16gb of ram

Wrc 8 is a 30fps designed game like the crew in the past or driveclub. Force 60fps and you will get stutters. This devs are realy ♥♥♥♥!!! even with 2080ti you got stutters! DIRT RALLY 2 MASTER THE RACE!!!
