how do you get job points?
So obviously doing things while in that job gives you JP.

But frequently I see my guys getting JP in jobs they haven't done in a long time.

Is there a way to get JP in a job you're not in besides doing the errands?

I know the errands give you JP without gaining xp but you can't send unique units on them.

When one of your units gain JP, each party member alive gets roughly 25% of that JP for themselves for that Job. It's called spillover JP. If you make multiple people the same job it multiplies this effect and lets you grind tons of JP quickly for everyone. You don't even need to have the Job unlocked either, you still get spillover.
Spillover JP

All units in a battle will get 1/4th of the JP earned by another unit in the job of that unit.

If Knight Ramza uses an ability and gets 20 JP... all other units in the battle not KO'd will get 5 JP in Knight.

Oh cool, I had no idea that was a thing thank you.
Yeah it's various learning mechanic where your units will gain some jp from seeing other party units in that class doing stuff and gaining jp. It's great because I was able to give ramza concentrate from archer without ever being an archer because I had a character that stayed archer for most of the game.

How does it work with taking a crystal from a dead party member if you happen to know?

i don't know for sure for sure, this is just my assumption but I think the vicarious learning only works with gaining jp. So I just assuming learning skills from crystals dont affect other characters gaining jp because you aren't gaining jp from the crystal. I could be wrong, this is just my assumption.

Also, I've always reset a game whenever a party member crystalizes lmao. I just can't accept them being gone and all my time and work on them go down the drain. But maybe one of these days, I will do a playthrough of no resetting the game. Kind of like an honor mode from baldur's gate 3 and like permadeath having to accept and unable to reload to prevent it. And a gameover means I have to start a new game, or at least clear all units who died in that battle from my party when reloading (obviously not the main character as he is required of course).
JP and Crystals are unrelated.

When you pick up a crystal it doesn't matter which ability you choose. You get all the abilities listed. Every ability a character has learned isn't on the list, however, so you won't get all their abilities.

Thank you, that's what I was wanting to know if it had all the abilities or just some of them.

oh i thought you were talking about how getting a crystal affects vicarious learning among other teammates. but yeah a lot of people misunderstood in the ps1 version and thought picking an ability only gives 1. when you go on the crystal, all the abillities displayed will be learned by that character but the reason it looks like you are picking an abliity is because they wanna allow you to look at the abilities and give you a chance to back out and heal hp/mp instead if you dont like the abilities.
