Silo is dead

So Silo has been dead for years and this was only attempt to get more money. Trust me it was a great program back in it's golden days but there are much better programs nowadays then this one and free.

This has more features and has a silo style mode.

There is a big buy button on their site that lists the product as $79...

So it's not free, but it looks VERY similar from that screenshot, I don't by any means think that the software is dead however, if you mean that there are no constant updates then sure, there may not be but the software is pretty stable and worth using as is, there are much better applications out there but this is my favourite low cost one as opposed to Blender which is annoying as hell to work with but that too is VERY powerful and FREE, if like me you have trouble with getting into that this is a great low cost 3d modelling application though... I have Maya and I still use this at times.

Here in the UK this software sells on Steam for £29.99 which is the price of a AAA title on release day. Which is not much at all when you come to think of it.

I would say look into this a little more rather than listening to haters, I.E - the OP, as there are a lot of people who hate it and a lot that love it, but it appears that the people who love using this ssoftware are too busy using it to write back on these forums or post about it somewhere, so take my advice and just look up videos on YouTube and read up on it yourself, try the demo/trial from their mainsite before purchasing it and if you do decide to buy it, go through Steam, it's much cheaper than buying from their site!

If you're just getting into 3D, try looking into Blender or Wings 3D, great FREE 3d modelling applications however Blender is a more complete application offering rigging and aniamtion as well as a built in game engine and sculpting tools. Whereas Wings3d concentrates on modelling and Uv mapping of your models as opposed to all the other stuff... Good Luck and choose wisely...

If you would have just clicked on the link and gone to the voidworld thread at the top then you would have seen that. Yes lots of people still like to use silo and all in all is it a great software but due to conflicts with newer windows OS and windows fixes causes this application to crash or not work sometimes. So yes because it hasn't been updated going on 4 years now and there are lots of known issues with the application, I would say it is dead. (Not community dead) (Stable wouldn't be the word for it either)

Of course there are lots of other softwares that are free and are much better. The point I'm getting across is if you want to get silo then why not just download the free voidworld which is more or less the new silo.

If you don't like voidworld and your heart is still set of buying silo then go for it.

Don't jump straight into thinking someone is a hater because they disagree with the current state of something. I would love to see silo's issues be fixed.

You're the only one assuming anything here, I do not think you're a hater because of your post...

I clicked the link and read it over, it is not free at least on that software page it has a 'buy' link on it, perhaps there is a 'free' version and a premium one?

I was simply leaving a lot of that information for other people who see the post too, and I had read your post properly, and if you're talking about windows 8 being the new OS, then even big companies like Autodesk have had issue with it :S but I suppose at least they fixed them eventually...

The main reason for me including that info aside fromposting it for other viewers who do not know any better is simply bcause I did click the link and it has a price tag on the software =\

I truly doubt the developers would charge for it and give the exact same version out for free, so I was providing more complete options for people, please do, tell me the differences from the paid and free one though?

I was interested in it, and I even downloaded it to check it out I just want to know of the limits behind the "free" version of it or why there is a paid version when they give a free serial key on their site's forum =\ it's just really strange to me!

I just installed it and gave it a go while I wait for a reply from the company about the differences from the license and this free version...

It's not bad so far but it's no "new Silo" that staement is kind of ignorant but it does have a lot of potential to overcome Silo, there are a few small features that would make it a ton better but like all software I suppose it has its pros and cons...

I will wait for my reply from the company before getting into it and using it though, it's a nice find but in its current state it isn't better than Silo (in my opinion, but I do need to use it a little more to judge it properly) lets see how the company's response goes.

Ok that is understandable!

The statement about it being the new silo is that nvil is getting changes and new features all the time. As far as I know voidworld was the old nvil before it became nvil. Nvil is more or less the newer (commercial) version with more stuff.

I have changed the link to the thread instead of the section it was posted in. So if they ever update it again then people might need to find the new thread if it changes.

Yeah I looked into it a little too after making that last post and found out that it's a version from 31st of January, while this version is still quite nice that one doesn't stack up to Silo... After reading up on some of the other features and what not it is pretty impressive for a lower end comercial application, I say lower end but I only mean by the cost not quality.

One thing that I do like about that free version is that you can customise everything you want..

Thanks for posting about it anyway as even if the free version is outdated the commercial version is still at a great price.

Hey, I just want to post my evaluation of this software here for others who find the post...

After using the application (the paid one that is up to date) I find it quite nice to work with, the ability to customize everything from tool sand the interface just like you can in Maya is quite very nice!

It lacks a couple of features that I quite like from Silo but it makes up in a few other areas, if anyone is reading this and you have the cash to throw at it ($79) It's worth it in my opinion, the developer seems to update at a reasonable pace so I am sure eventually it will have those features that I want it to have.

If it didn't have that level of customizabiity I probably wouldn't prefer it over Silo, but I am leaning more towards this application the more I use it. I'm happy to have both though XD lol
