One of the coolest games ruined by controls
Man, I have had this on my wishlist forever.
I thought it would be a REALLY good game (even though I dont play this kind of game/genre), and YES I was right. The game is SO good.
The only problem? I cant freeken play the darn thing.
I thought maybe after the tutorial I would get to set the keyboard rebinds, but nope, you get THE worst keyboard settings I have ever seen in ANY game since Dragons Lair (yes, all of them).

This would be a 10/10 game if you would only let us remap the keyboard to what WE think are good settings.
As it is, I would have to give the game a 2/10. Sad, yes.

But, I am going to ask for a refund, and then see if its on Xbox (I barely play that, and No, I dont use a controller or anything else besides a mouse on a PC).
You would think that on a console, yes, controller.
On a PC? Most people never even had one, like, at all. Like, had NO console, or kept them completely seperate.
And using the F keys? And reusing q/a and e/d every 2 seconds is just asking for trouble.

Anyway, all that out of the way, I found a bug:
With a usb headset (5.1 / 7.1), I never got a lot of the dialog (like the Rhino talking at first, or the lady that comes in ALL the time until I pressed the Tutorial button, and then she was like 'and its so sad that he died'. Thats all I heard. I noticed missing audio throughout the tutorial also, like going to the gym I heard nothing until I got inside it.
I am not sure if its because I had set the music down to like 65 and the FX to 92 and Talking to 100%, or if it is because I turned on Tutorials, or if its a combo of both.

Sorry Dev/s, I really do love the game. Its just too sad that you chose not to let us rebind keyboard.

I will look for it on xbox though, because it really is one of the coolest games (so far) that I have played.

Let us know if you ever let rebinding happen, as games (to me anyway) are much more enjoyable on a PC than on a console, and your future games may do MUCH better if you do a better job with rebinding besides 'it plays better with a controller' , which should REALLY be 'it ONLY plays with a controller' .

Anyway, enough. Love game, cant play it.

And those games you mentioned I dont play.
Also, I never even had a controller, or console, until RDR2 came out.
So, I have a controller for console, that never F'z up my pc.

You are the problem here, not me.
PC players are used to kb/mouse, not a controller (FPS PLAYERS ANYWAY), and I am a long time fps player on pc, since '95.
But the new gen gamers just dont care as long as it works for them. What about lefties? Kb n mouse only players? Handicapped players. Colorblind. On and on.
But you use a controller on pc so its ok.
Its up to the developer or publisher to make the game aas accessible to as many people as possible.
But I guess that takes too much money (a couple days coding) to make it right.
So glad MS is making console only games kb n mouse accessible on PC, so people who dont use consoles or controllers can play their games.

I am currently trying to navigate Cat Senses and it's frustrating. I also don't use a controller.

Solution: Just use the mouse to move the camera.

Owning a controller is probably as common as having a headset or microphone these days. Some games like Rocket League, Dark Souls as well as many other games recommend a controller over mouse and keyboard.

It is indeed but most of old school PC gamers still prefer keyboard/mouse. I must say this game is great but controllers still really bad even with a controller.

I just always love it when people go around making sweeping generalizations like "most PC gamers" and "PC players" as if their personal preferences was everyone's. LOL

Well, they were also complaining a year ago - a lot more PC gamers use controllers now. Who knows if it's "most" or not, though - sweeping generalizations indeed.

I tried it, but yeah, the control is total BS. Couldn't stand it after 20 minutes, stopped playing and refunded,

I really wanted to play this, But ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ am I so sore of freakin' port with janky control.

I use a controller due to bad keyboard binds in most games, i just cant access all of the keys easily. For single player games controller is my go to, but for online games I use keyboard and mouse mostly. However Id thought by now being able to rebind controls was a basic feature in every pc game, some games even allow you to rebind your controller's buttons.

For me thats a requirement because I am unable to use my left pinky finger to hit certain keys in games. I'm a bit surprised there isnt a way to rebind controls on keyboard and mouse. Accessibility matters. If I couldnt rebind keyboard controls I wouldnt have been able to play most pc games.

Question for OP: why look for this game on xbox? Why not just use a xbox controller on pc? I played the game using one and it was very enjoyable. I do agree with you though, rebinding keys should be a stander in any pc game due to accessibility.

To answer your question on why play on Xbox, I had JUST got one for RDR II.
But, to my dismay, controllers and my large hands do not make a good gaming session. I have to ROLL the controllers in each hand to the side I need to press the buttons or use the 1 stick. You can imagine how much that hurts both my hands and my gameplay experience. So, I have shelved the xbox, knowing I cant use controllers (and I bought the biggest one there was, and that dindt work either).
So, a PC KB/M user for decades, I just cant use a controller. I can barely use a keyboard because my hands and fingers are so long, I have to go old school and use arrows and surrounding keys to play ANY game, not just this game.
It is truly bad that this game does not let you rebind, because what little I COULD play was super fun, and funny to my sense of humor.
I wish they would have added rebinding in by now, but to no avail. I will never be able to play this game because of it, not on xbox, not on pc.
:(

Man, that also broke my spirit in the first minutes of the game... I actually own a PS4 controller but I really don't want to use it anymore (used it for PES a looong time ago). I also play every game with the same keyboard settings (and use the arrow keys instead of WASD - I also do that since... well, I want to say "Doom 2" in 1995). It baffles me when people learn new keyboard settings for every new game. I always go into the settings first before I start a new game and also assign my 10 mouse buttons first. Not being able to, is kinda a dealbreaker...

I guess I'll think about a refund.... or do the hard thing and make extensive use of AutoHotKey... not sure, yet...
Dave3d Jul 7, 2021 @ 6:18pm
Yeah, it was hard for me to make the decision to refund, because as I have said multiple times, the game IS fun, and funny.
Its one of those rare games that make made laugh out loud.
But in the end, if no rebinds, it gets refunded. Auto Hotkey for me (when I used it way back in the day when this sort of thing first started happening with ports/pc being together instead of seperate) always was a PITA to use, because I dont just game, and switching it on/off, and having to re-set it up for every game, it was too much to do to have FUN. And thats what gaming has always been, fun (and some games frustrating as heck but still fun), and this game started to take me back to those days, until I had to use keys I am not familiar with.
But, we are a dying breed.
This gen users will know what its like when they get their wasd and keys moved (heck, already happening with more than a few games, and already there is backlash, and that is just 2 keys).
I still hold hope that someone will make a mod, or the devs will make the keys remappable. I would pay full price still to play with remappables.

Hi dave i have used loads of point and click games over the years , the rule of thumb is that you turn and face the direction you want to move and then press the movement key.

As you obviously know it does not work like that in this game.

I have only used it a few hours and i am currently moving inside and on top of the gym. The controls are so fustrating it is actually making me not want to use the game.

Real Yakuza use a gamepad!
