First - KNOW THE WAY - Most important part is knowing where he is at. The map is slightly random but not enough to change the core locations.
Dash - All characters have access to this at the start of the game. Run away in the starting stories. Any items given at the start can be found in the game.
Fake Book - It's in the first library in the main building. Come through the back to avoid the hounds (Go left to keep them from spawning right away). You need this to open into the back garden.
Explosive Vial - You might have to restart a run or two but make sure to find one of these. You need it to open the hidden garden.
Don't Fight - Fighting takes time that you don't have. Run straight to him.
Don't Talk - Talking to NPCs take time Le'Garde doesn't have. Run straight to him. You can talk to everyone after you have him still.
Save Often - If you head to the left right away instead of into the main building, there is a save room before the prisons. I used this one twice as the shortcut to Le'Grade is near this one on the way back. By rushing you don't have as much equipment and if you get caught things hurt a bit more.
It took me a couple hours to get this down but I was able to get to him without mods or editing. I'm not sure if there's mods or not but unfortunately if you want to have a run with Le'Garde you'll need to do all your exploring after you have him. You won't miss anything by rushing to him (At least from what I noticed from runs before I figured out how to save him.)
I always, ALWAYS play all my games slowly, and methodically, exploring lore and all the places possible. 30 minutes is some ungoldy timer, really, as mentioned above, I reached my first safe point (bed in Buckman's room) after 20 minutes of gameplay, at least save file says so. Really hope it is possible to edit
It is possible to do all that after you get to him.
This game is hitting hard that if you want to explore the prison you are not going to be able to get to someone being actively tortured before they die.
But for someone being tortured it certainly would suck. There's plenty of time to be killed faster then thirty minutes. Humans are squishy.
I googled about that before, and nope, it only says 30 minutes on all difficulties, plus he is always dead on hardest one.
Pick D'Arce the Knight, choose Raise your Buckler in Defence, Run away, Manage defences and Rush straight after him.
Go to the altar in the Level 1 Inner Hall and murder the priests and search them, use the soul stone obtained to get a lesser soul, go to the marked door in the Level 1 Courtyard or Level 1 Entrance depending on the map gen and use the talisman to open the door.
Use the Hexen to learn Leg Sweep, then make your way to the Level 3 Prisons, go to the stairway door and force it open. Use Leg Sweep to break it down instantly since it is registered as a leg. Then make your way down the stairs to the Level 7 Catacombs and save Le Garde (and don't get raped).
EDIT: This won't work on Hard Mode and on Terror and Starvation you will need to take the Level 3 Basement (side entrance) rather than the front entrance.
The exception is on Hard Mode where he is always dead.
