Cursed weapons: do they have a downside?

I know cursed rings can't be removed, but what about cursed weapons?

As far as I can tell cursed weapons are just stronger & can hit ghosts, and don't have any downsides.

100% it causes enemy's to deal more damage to your your limbs: Merc with cursed weapon, arm was removed 90% of the time, Merc without weapon, arm was removed around 20% of the time
What else it might do I have no idea. I ran into some really bad luck with a OP boss being put infront of a lever i needed to get to, But that absolutely could have just been general bad luck.

There is at least one specific cursed weapon with it's own unique downside. But it is called something other than a generic "Cursed X" and the downside is pretty plainly telegraphed.
