Destroyed cave dweller village ?

I don't know what triggered this; I wanted to stock up on things at the cave dweller village merchant but everyone was dead and there were patrolling moonless guards roaming around. Didnt get to the cube as I was low in healing supplies and hardmode so no save.
Maybe I let the game run for too long when taking a break ?

I've run into this as well, but I'm not sure what triggered it. I am wondering if it's just part of the random aspect of the game? When I went in there, they were all dead and mutated guards that normally don't show up until the final dungeon were hanging around.

It's actually one of the random events in the game. It's kinda rare though, so consider yourself lucky >_>

Nice, I wish there was more thematic variants like that, different zones randomly invaded by different types of enemies and different encounters based on that.

Nice, but i'd suggest the changed zone should have something rewarding in a way; in the cavedweller village you can lose big (atleast in hardmode where I mostly buy opium and explosives) but moonless guards arent really rewarding to fight at that point. In that exemple maybe they sould be guarding something unique and different.

I remember when I rescued D'arce and then went around the village with all those dead bodies... Made me wonder if it was her doing.

i don't understand why we can't kill the cave dweller child in one of the huts, they are monsters after all
