Can't save Legarde in Hard Mode? Deeper meaning behind it?
Someone who doesn't have access to the steam forums wanted me to double check this info. He was wondering, "Is there any deeper meaning (in him being dead on hardmode) leading to a hidden Ending S or something as Legrande did orchestrate far too much to simply die. Some lore did say he was already changed by the darkness while in imprisonment."

I haven't had a chance to play hard mode yet myself, but from what I've read here, it's not possible to recruit any party members. Due to this, will Legarde always be dead, no matter how quickly you get to him? Are their multiple versions to the Ending S, or do you have to do specific things to unlock it?

Yeah, at first without knowing it I tried multiple runs going as fast as possible and Legarde was always dead.

"Ending "S" is unlocked by defeating all new gods, destroying all heart organs, and going into the mouth of the god of the depths, then to the heart of darkness and defeat the boss there.
But be aware that in hardmode you are on your own, there are no more people you can recruit.
Also loot rng is worse then in normal mode, on top of that... there is no save!
No book of enlightment ! No bed to save! No people to help you! worse loot! and more =P
Are you sureeee~ you can beat it? I wish you luck, I did ... its not impossible but hard as hell...
Also be ready to have enough time to beat it, since no save also... you better know every trick and tactic, and every bug to avoid. Else you will cry and rage when you close to the end and die... specially at the cheap one shot traps and other funny things that instant kill you even outside of combat ;)"

This is a late reply but this is taken directly from what one of the beta testers of the game "Heartless Angel" (his name is in the credits) told me in a youtube comment. so i dont think there are multiple versions of ending S, its just designed to make you feel as alone and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ as possible in the dungeon

Thank you for the information, I really appreciate it. Well, I probably won't be attempting Hard Mode myself... the game is brutal enough with the saves. I'll give this information to my friend though; I'm sure he'll be happy to know this is the case.

I believe in another forum post on here, the developer said he'd be changing/improving ending S at one point. So, maybe once that's done, I'll give it a shot. I love the lore and story behind this game, so it might be worth the agony to get through, if the ending is interesting.

Thanks again.
