A mode with forgiving save system?
I like the game, I think it's very unique and enjoyable.

I understand that this roguelike(ish) system is intentional, but I just don't have the time for it.

Maybe you can make an easy mode with reliable saves? And if you want to reward harder difficulty, make some achievements for it.

I am not going to refund the game or anything, but I hope you can see it from my perspective.

Sure, https://drive.google.com/file/d/1oX9sQcVLeAB4ab02SSGGH8R0DevyQhKo/view download this and extract, the only file you want is Map010.json, but first make a backup of the file Map010.json that is located on your game's folder/www/data, then copy the one you downloaded and overwrite. It is made for version 1.03, I still haven't tried it on the steam version but it should work ok, anything happens just replace for the backup version and it will be back to normal.

Thanks!

How does it work? No changes were made in my game.

you need to make a new character, then you go to your inventory and look at the book section there will be a "save book" there

The Steam version is 1.02, so there was no book in my inventory. The steam version isn't even updated fully, so I'll just have to wait. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Saving isn't that bad once you get going. A bed on the second level of the basement next to a statue allows you to sleep in it to save, it's a coin flip, either you save or you are confronted by a monster known as the crow mauler. Once you kill it, you can save as many times as you want from there.

You can also find books of enlightment either randomly on bookshelves, there's also a few books that always generate on different floors. You can also spawn them with empty scrolls by typing in O LORD GIVE ENLIGHTMENT

I'm surprised people are having this hard of a time with it.

I understand that people play only in short intervals (I'm like that myself) But there are actually guaranteed save books within 10-20 minutes from the start that you can reach fairly easily once you know few tricks of survival. Also the version 1.1.0 gave one free save on the first bed.

If there is still demand for easy mode, I might consider it..

I guess that makes sense, I'm willing to try it until I find a reliable way to save my game. I definitely agree that difficulty and the unknown makes the game scarier! But it does suck having to retrack the same path over and over

The game is literally less than an 3 hours long once you get the hang of everything. The saving system is a lot less unforgiving than people realize. Theres at least two books I've found so far that always spawn in the same place.

I think people are kind of confusing how the game should be played because of the fact it has a turn based combat system. You don't get any XP, your characters don't level up in the traditional sense and combat is very rarely rewarding enough to actually warrant it.

I imagine you are feeling the same way I did when I first started playing the game, because I died within the first 5 minutes of the game and I kept dying, over and over again.

As far as saving goes, I have recommended that players establish a save first with the Crow Mauler bed, because once you have a save, it's easier to play. There's a 50/50 chance of saving (I think the developer said they changed it to one free save) and it's easy to get to, so dying doesn't take up nearly as much of your time if you have to restart.

Well, the game is very hard even when you know what you are doing, after 100 hours into it, due to the full random thing.
So people who want to check some story on Hard and are not up for 5, 6 hours of failing coin tosses, such as myself, would truly be grateful for even the regular saving chances of Terror and Starvation mode.
If anyone can help with a mod for saving on the 1.4.1 steam version, I would really appreciate it.

This did not work with whatever version is current on itchio

The only part that needs 'forgiving' is the stupid coin flip when there's nobody left in the area to come and attack you in your sleep.

It could be argued that it's atmospheric lore, 'the dungeon is so stressful you can't be sure of getting sleep even while safe'. Except that it becomes obvious that it's a stupid bug when a guard's corpse is teleported into your room at one of the early game beds. Not much 'killing intent' to sense from a dead ♥♥♥♥♥♥. To prove the point, you don't have to deal with the coin flip for the bed in crow mauler's room after he's dead.

Not only that, but post-death crow mauler's bed & the end-game bed at tower of endless are the only two that allow you to sleep 'n' save without coin flipping over literally nothing (although you WILL have to complete the dream sequence & boss first, if you try sleeping in the Past version of tower bed). The bed in the temple district of Ancient City aka Ma'habre might not be bugged either, it could be fine? I haven't tested that location.

Otherwise we get to waste time... & mind & hunger meters... to walk back and forth between screens just to save. Over a genuinely pointless coin flip. Needless to say, do NOT waste your lucky coins on that ♥♥♥♥.
