Linux Version?
Will you release a Linux version of this game?

Waiting for your response. Thank you :steamhappy:

I managed to use the Linux port of NW.JS to run the game natively without using Proton. So far I can confirm the game boots and is playable using it, but I didn't have time to test it more thoroughly yet for any bugs or crashes.

All you need to do is to download NW.JS for your Linux distro (version 0.38.2 seems to work best), copy all the files inside the zipped archive and paste them into the game's path (/<steam path>/steamapps/common/Fear & Hunger).

After that you can directly run the "nw" executable in there and it'll open up the game. Just make sure the "package.json" file and "www" folder are in the same path as the "nw" executable so it can load the game files.

Only downside is that you'll not be running it through Steam, so you won't get achievements or cards (although Fear & Hunger doesn't have any so maybe it's not that big of a deal). You can still add it as a non-Steam game to run it on Steam though.

Every RPG Maker MV game uses NW.JS so it's likely it'll work with more MV games, not just Fear & Hunger. Although from what I tested some games may try calling Windows-only fonts and will crash if they don't find any, so you may also want to install "mscorefonts" in your package manager just to prevent this.

This may work on a Steam Deck as well, but I don't have one so I can't test it.

There's no official Linux version, but there is an unofficial patch you can do (works with Steam Deck, though you'll have to launch the game from the Desktop mode):

Step 1: Download this: https://gamepretty.com/go/?url=https://dl.nwjs.io/v0.57.1/nwjs-v0.57.1-linux-x64.tar.gz

Step 2: Extract the contents into the game's install location (replace all files when it asks).

Step 3: In Steam, set the game's launch options to:

./nw %command%

I obtained the information from this guide: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2976566490

In regards to the Steam Deck. I followed all of the steps in this guide and then renamed the "nw" file to Fear&Hunger and then right clicked on the newly named "Fear&Hunger" (formerly nw) file and 'add to Steam' then you can go back to gaming mode and if you want hide the 'Steam Fear & Hunger' and then just launch the game by the "Fear&Hunger" that we added to Steam.

P.S.- You can also change the art for our newly minted "Fear&Hunger" Linux version so it is virtually indistinguishable from the one we bought that performs abysmally on the Steam Deck if you have Decky Loader and SteamgridDB. The Unofficial Linux Version we have made runs at a buttery 60 fps and it not only runs flawlessly it consumes far less battery than the Steam version running through Proton.

It is truly a shame that the Dev never followed through with Linux support on this amazing title but with a little Work we can get it going ourselves.

Best of luck to you Fear&Hunger Deck Bro's and Broette's. I hope you find this as helpful as it was for me.

Also with this method you can use FSR to clean up the image. I am using mine on 3/5 which I find offers the best image quality. :praisesun:
