Technical problems help - crashes, gamepad support, etc.
Hellish Quart has a technical help section on its official web page. This link is also available from inside the game, in the Main Menu (click the Technical Help button).

Link: https://www.hellishquart.com/troubleshoot

If you have problems with the game like not working game controllers, crashes after an update, weirdly working Menus, game working in slomo - solutions for all those problems can be found in this section.

The most common issues are:

- Your game controller is not recognized -
The game should recognize all Game Controllers, but Steam acts as a middleware for all devices and messes things up. Disable Steam Input middleware:

1. Right Click on Hellish Quart title in the Steam Client
2. Choose Properties… and choose Controller tab
3. Click on Use default settings and change it to Disable Steam Input

Also, in the game, go to Options\Rebind Controls and try to manually bind your gamepad buttons.

- The game worked fine, and after an update it crashes / has weird menu bugs -
The game files might have gone corrupted during Steam patching the files. Verify the files integrity so Steam fixes the file structure.

1. Load Steam
2. From the Library tab, right-click on Hellish Quart and select Properties from the menu
3. Select the Local files tab and click Verify integrity of game files...
4. Steam will verify the game's files and fix the problems

odd how nobody has commented yet but uh heres my question:
IS there a way to disable the slow down feature when the game detects that the fps is low or something???
because for some reason, even when the fps is purely fine its still being locked slow

This game simualates phsycis frame by frame. It won't skip frames like other games if your PC is not powerful enough for the settings you chose. It will simply slow down the game to be able render them all and keep the simulation unbroken.

Btw. this is written in the tips in the Main Menu on the bottom of the screen.

Solution for this is lowering the Graphics Options. More answers like this you can find in the technical help here: https://www.hellishquart.com/troubleshoot

This link is also available from the game's Main Menu (click on the "technical help" button).

I've got a weird situation. I've been playing for ages without any problems beyond what I felt were typical Early Access issues. Recently (maybe in the last 2 weeks or so), every once in a while, starting the game would hang (just a black screen) before rebooting my PC. So I verified my files, Steam downloaded stuff, and I kept playing. Still got the occasional hang-reboot, figured it was probably my video drivers, and made a mental note to update them one of these days.

But starting yesterday, all of my game settings (resolution, sound, everything) reverted to the defaults, and I *can't change them back*. Also, my rankings/ducats/ducat purchases/etc got wiped out. I'm not concerned about the cosmetic stuff, but if I can't change the resolution from 640x480 the game's almost unplayable for me.

I've verified the game files a couple of times and updated my video drivers, but that didn't help.

I don't know if the two problems are related. I'm guessing a settings file got flipped to "read only," but maybe there's something else going on. Please help! I love this game, even if I suck at it!

Hi! Sorry if its the wrong thread, please correct me to the right one. For now I will post it here.

Haven't payed for a while, and decided to practice Marie against Martha. Went to training , HEMA, picked my characters, picked most hard AI, and when I fight at some point Martha starts endlessly going back without attacking. So this is opponents AI problem.

The save files are stored in

C:\Users\[Your Username]\AppData\LocalLow\Kubold\Hellish Quart\HQuart.es3

If you are using Steam to play Hellish Quart, the save files are also stored in Steam Cloud.

1. Try checking if your save file is "read only". It should not be.
2. Make a copy of the save file to back it up, and try deleting your original save file. If the game works again, try bringing the backup copy back.
3. Try disabling Cloud Save in the game Properties in the Steam Client (Right click Hellish Quart -> Properties...)

Thank you! Disabling Steam Cloud saves did the trick, now it's working perfectly.

pausing and unpasuing the game causes some weird glitches - sometimes characters teleport into new positions, several times after unpausing the game the enemy teleported right next to me and killed me instantly.

I had a weird occasion where using the freecam mode unpaused the gamewhile in freecam, I couldn't move my character as I was using the camera controls but the opponent could attack me. Pausing a d unpausing again fixed it.

I probably hit two buttons at once or something.
