9 more characters to fill, I wonder who they'll be
There are currently 12 playable characters in the game, 2 more on the list but unselectable and 1 (the Scotsman) appearing in an in-game graphic. Given the 6×4 selection window it seems we'll get 9 more at some point in the future. Who will it be?

Based on the setting (period and area) I would assume at least one fighter from the Ottoman Empire, maybe even two, a janissary and a bashi-bazouk, (Alexander doesn't really count as he's clearly from further south [and likely far west] and doesn't dress in an Ottoman manner) and one crimean Tatar raider. That would leave 6 more spots.

Maybe another Westerner with a straight-edged weapon, a Dutch perhaps?

Maybe another peasant with an unconventional weapon? I must admit, Jędrek is fun to play as. A straightened scythe perhaps?

Maybe a seaman with a cutlass? I think mechanically he would blend well with the rest of the characters, even if setting-wise maybe not so much.

Maybe an eastern woman? So far the only ones are from the west. I can totally a Russian lady wielding a saber or maybe even a bardiche.

I thought about a character with two long knives, but I don't think it would be feasible, balance-wise.

As long as we don't get more sabre characters, I'm fine. ♥♥♥♥'s getting old.

We know for a fact another longsword character is coming. I would like to see a dutch character possibly with klewang, as well as maybe another rapier character or two. A character who does french rapier, and maybe another doing something like Capo Ferro. I think a character with a smallsword could also be a realistic addition, but might be pretty underpowered. Either way we can definitely expect more saber characters given the saber was the most popular weapon in this time and region.

Kubold mensions "She wolves" in the Wild lands of the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth in the History buff mode. Seems like a perfect inspiration for it because these women often carried weapons out of necessity just because there was so much fighting and banditry. A good way to make this historically plausible for sure.

characters Kubold mentioned adding over the years (correct me if my memory is wrong): ottoman janissary, crimean tatar, russian/muscovite character, swedish reiter, another longsword fencer, and left-handed fencer.

personally, i'd like to see a rapier + main-gauche fencer, considering sava will also have a main-gauche, and some more exotic characters like a kalmyk and/or circassian fencer.

oh yeah, Kubold also mentioned that jacek will get an entirely new moveset and skin with the next big update that will add the first version of story mode. barabasz will inherit his current skin and some of his moves. so technically jacek will also be a new character we haven't seen yet.

I hope to see ethinic Caucasians' (from Caucasus) shashka with a buckler

the specifics of shashka is that a sabre with hilt was allowed only for nobles
so common people used long knifes as long as a sabre but without any hilt called "shashka"
as was it has no hilt it used with a buckler for fencing
officially it was called as "a knife for cutting a vinegrape"

Kubold ruled out shields in a youtube comment in one of his recent mod tutorial videos.

shashka as a knife does not have a hilt like a sabre
so it used with a shild as a hilt

Let's hope it does not turn into a circus. Some of the propositions here are scary ("dual weapons" - :rolleyes )

Sword and dagger are dual weapons and fully historical. There's even treatises for two swords.
Subutai Jun 22, 2023 @ 6:22am
If Kanamura opened a HEMA book he would see that dual-wielding was absolutely done. Including two messers, two rapiers, two sideswords, etc. It was a thing in China, Japan, and elsewhere too most likely.

Its rarer of course and only saw action in street fighting, duels, and other civilian contexts really (like what this game takes place in) and not on the battlefield but the fact is it was done in fencing halls, show fights, and real street combat in civilian life. Its also suggested that while its best to run away if you encounter multiple opponnents, two swords gives you a better chance than most swords alone or weapon combos because you can cover multiple lines of attack. Only greatswords are superior for this purpose assuming skilled hands. With two swords you can also attack and defend at the same time.
