Polearms? (and other different weapons)
Would it be possible to add a character/characters using polearms in the future? I think it would be cool. Also, maybe weapons from other cultures can be added in the future as a dlc pack, no? Like Japanese, Chinese, African weapons.

Polearms would be OP. Other types of weapons would be nice.

As far as I understand this game aims to simulate civilian dueling. Polearms are (mostly) battlefield weapons, unwieldy and completely OP.
Maybe as some campaign boss, a guard of sorts.
I think you are right about polearms. I thought they could add something like a different game mod in which there is dueling with only battlefield/professional type of weapons. So for example a player can choose one of the two mods, so that the pvp or pve dueling won't be unbalanced. In one mod there would be the normal game with normal dueling weapons and in the other just pure fantasy like this. I think if they add it as an optional item, it wouldn't cause much problem. However, of course they can add it like a boss too it would be fun :D Maybe we can be that boss and rush against mulltiple opponents one-by-one, like an arcade campaign, no? What do you think?

How would you like to wield 4m pike inside a cellar?

Too long indeed, but nobody here asked for a pikeman in the game.

There are a number of much shorter polearms - less than 2.5 m - that would be fun to use in HQ. Spears, partisans, glaives, halberds...

Personally I'd be quite content even with just one guy wielding a quarterstaff.

At long range, yes. So what? It would be fun to try to work your way into hitting range with a sword. What are you worried about?

Hi Marius.

Did you ever took a glance at the fencing book of Paulus Hector Mair?
There is a section about mixed weapon fights, like:

spear vs longsword

halberd vs sword

and so on.

OMG! Finally... someone who understands what I really mean and wants to have fun... Thank you... Also, what I am trying to saay is that if we make it something like a game mod, people who doesn't like it can play the vanilla game. I don't know what is to be worried in this case. Marius's idea is very cool too tbh. Thank you Rhazgriz.

@El Hopaness Romtic - You are welcome!

I think it would be OK to include 2 or 3 polearm characters even in Vanilla game, better if not available immediatly but unlockable along the way.

If some people is worried about the consequences for PvP tournaments, whoever host the competition can simply declare them illegal to use. That's it.

BTW, the next coming character planned - according to Kubold - is the mysterious game Boss. At the moment, we know nothing about him (her?) but I really hope that he'll feature some kind of weapon we have not seen yet. A polearm? That would be nice, methinks.

Yeah I think so too :D There is always a way to prevent unwanted consequences. Unlockable characters is also a good idea regardless of whom you are unlocking. It would set a goal for players. For example, one doesn't only play for just fun, but to also unlock other in-game characters. I don't know about this tho, some people may not agree with it. Yet, polearm characters would be better unlockable, as you said.

Game boss?? I hadn't heard about it but now I am excited :D I also hope for a new type of weapon. Imagine trying to get closer to a character holding a glaive guisarme or a halberd via trying various combos while also trying to not get hit. Would be really fun in my opinion. (doesn't have to be those weapons, I was just giving examples)

I think this game has sooo many potential, I just don't want it to be missed.

(btw, I have run out of steam points @Razgriz 3 :D you'll see later)

so, speakign of combat distances...how do y'all feel about knives/dagger-only characters? of course would probably require a more elaborate/less random grabbing/punching mechanic.

Hello Temujin.

Good question. I see one serious problem with a character relying on a short blade - knife or dagger - only. You can't actually do much fencing with short blades, compared to proper swords. It's more of a grab-and-stab or rush-and-slash thing. And the game is currently weak when dealing with close-quarters combat, so introducing such character could turn out quite troublesome and time-consuming for Kubold to do. If the developement team were substantially bigger, maybe...

Second thing: I am not sure it would be a good idea having in the same game both characters wielding short blades and others equipped with polearms, The power and range gap would be really big if put against each other.
