Progress on this game is really, really slow
Purchased it the moment it hit Steam, but now over a year later it feels almost nothing has changed. If the game progresses at this pace when would it be ready to be shipped? In 5 years from now?

Ongoing problem with all indie Early Access game is...

Small indie devs will rather follow their original vision ( the dream ), than stick to what they can actualy do in reasonable time. Effect is predictible, games "Forever in making".

One example of this kind of stuff with Hellish Quart. Many months ago he teased story mode. It was animated and all. Literaly my first thought was, why doesn't he make it static with artworks and dialogue choices in style of visual novel so it's up to their capabilities ? See this is the problem, these devs will never drop their dreamy vision for the sake of REALISTIC game developement, and they rather expand on the original idea than cut something out.

It's a lost cause and good material for psychological studies.

I agree that this is probably true and a part of the reason. The other part being thsat Kubold is almost a sole developer, helped by wife with cloth scanning and other people with music, story script and sometimes with mocap. Coding, balancing, animations and all implementation is performed by one person who used to be an animator in his previous projects. He also does all other things by himself - occasional Youtube videos, project management etc.

I think that the largest boost he could get would be by hiring a coder (In bold in hopes that Kubold notices it) so that Kubold himself can focus on the parts I suspect he enjoys more. He plans to do so later but from my experience it's not that you hire a programmer and he immediately starts improving your project - he needs to learn your code, possibly fix some things, sometimes he must redo things that are coded badly. And I think that the sooner Kubold hires one the more time he will save in the long run.

But for now it's his dream project and he probably doesn't think about improving his schedules and realistic game development. To his credit it's not easy to find a relatively experienced/good coder/developer for cheap and that is probably a part of a problem too.

My favorite part is how the whingers farming for jesters in this thread never got a reply from myself and others who told them how pathetic they were, and just assumed they had won. Pretty funny when you just tell an idiot they're an idiot and move on, and then see the gymnastics they've gone through since later on.
