Because it is like walking to a Chinese restaurant and trying to order a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hamburger.
That said, Kubold has stated that in DLCs we might see characters that don't fit the time period or setting – samurai included.
There are a couple of reasons people got mad:
- chosen white knights will try to burn everyone with their white light, out of fear, their precious treasure might get tainted while completely forgetting it's a GAME --> also they think they can speak for the devs --> there is nothing wrong in making suggestions/wishes here on the forum, also if they're "stupid" in the eyes of some people...the devs surprised us here and then by changing few things they had planned already...when something appears to be "stupid" just let it be...don't have to engage. It's like they don't trust the devs making their own game based on their own decisions...
- I can understand concerns of exploiting chars in online mode that might be too strong (parsec has random matchmaking). A Samurai would most likely snuff everyone out. If they make him weaker though, it's unrealistic. It would not feel "right". We know that balance is important in gaming. Otherwise it would get very one-sided...
- Personally I would love to see some more "unrealistic" chars as well. The engine is just made for that XD!!!
So: story mode is for the die-hard-it-must-be-historically-accurate guys, and for the purpose of the story-mode itself. Why not make it historically accurate. It's interesting.
Also there can be a couple more unrealistic chars for the online gameplay.
Or make a "realistic" mode and a "wild" mode with "unrealistic" chars for streamplay. Why not. So devs can get /research data/player feedback firsthand. Unexpected things happen when you release something into the wild.
So you can choose what you want to play. Like I said: the engine is great also for experimental stuff (polearm mode in the future?). Kubold have some great demos for other weapon styles on their youtube channel!
I understand they want to complete their game first and follow their (almost) orig. plans. When that's done, I personally would like to see some experimental things after 1.0!
Either way. I love what they have done so far.
OP's suggestion is very cool! Would love to see that!
I want to encourage everyone to throw in ideas like that. You never know what inspiration the devs might take out of a post like that!
No harm done in posting ideas on a forum!!
