Yeah I'm guessing grab might be more fair in multiplayer since i'm guessing you have to do some input to get out of the grab, though the bot CPU seems to get out like 9/10 of the time in my experience.
The reaction window to tech it is so generous that anyone with even minimal fighting game experience will have it down after a bit of practice. Took me and my mate around ten minutes to both reach a point where neither of us has been able to land a throw on the other ever since.
But yea, per the developer the current system is just a placeholder, so it doesn't really matter either way.
I do find just pushing the opponent instead of grabbing more effective though, as quite often it can get a strike with enough force to end it there anyway.
That is to say, even as a placeholder mechanic, it has its place and it works (when it actually does, its quite buggy)
