The complex engine both graphics and physic is there. But you would need to make it FPS, and somehow transfer the realistic weapons handling to VR(which no game really has been able to do) you also somehow have to make the AI work in a true 3d environment and not screw up. I say the game is about 40% on it's way. But the renaming 60% is years of work.
They dont need to transfer realistic weapon handling, the problem with current VR melee fighting games is that you fight brain dead opponents that have no idea how to use sword. Blocking and reading animations in this game would be quite hard task for vr player (like irl) and physics based interaction would make it impossible to just wiggle sword and hit opponents.
AI already works in 3d, they always look at character and you can walk in 3d directions.
The only problematic things for them would be making ivnerse kinematics for player to see their character (if they dont just hide it and make floating hands) and some code change to make active ragdoll follow not animations but IK.
1. just make it stereoscopic to enjoy the 3D depth of the nice backgrounds (VR light with Gamepad)
2. full motion controller support with FP view, maybe with the option to use some button combos for special moves (you can't realize by your body so fast and accurate without any help).
Everybody is mentioning Blade & Sorcery first in comparison. But what i like much more is Hellsplit or even not so physics based combat but very balanced in Until You Fall. Fully (just) physics based combat is sometimes too realistic to make a fun gameplay in my eyes. UYF has a cool timed combo system, where you have to slice in visualized directions and positions to finish a combo, similar to the button patterns in all classic fighting games but optimized for full VR gameplay.
That would be amazing and Unity has native support for VR.
So.. please!!!
Also this will seriously give you a nice boost in sales as the VR portfolio has nothing compared to this game at this quality...
No kidding, just by adding 3D support you will get massive sales from VR players.
Instant buy for me already for an additional copy and will gift it
Honestly, if I wanted a good VR HEMA experience, I would just do actual HEMA or play something like Blade and Sorcery. If I wanted a good sword fighting game in first person, I'd play something like Mordhau or Mount and Blade. Hellish Quart though is the only 3rd person fighting game I know with realistic sword physics and should probably focus more on just being a good fighting game first before it tries to be something different.
Thank you for your valuable and nessecary input
