Little Miss Marie: Impressions with video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXa03WYfxGk

Having quite abit of fun with marie. my overall impressions are positive. went against the other characters.

using the rapier, i was compelled to fish for my openings, getting in quick pokes and jabs, followed up with punishing thrusts when the enemy over extends, or rather exposed in middle of sword exchanges.

attacking the opponents hand is very effective, especially against Isabella and Gideon, much of that being due to switching stances and having their hand exposed at a angle, making it extremely difficult for them to block.

best exchanges were between barbaraz and isabella, being unsure if marie had the strength/stamina to exchange strikes but she has alot of spunk for her smol size. admittedly, much of that was possible with focusing on stationary jabs (B) and alternativing between forward (Y) back (Y) or (B) and so on depending on the situation.

her horizontal strikes are poor, probably expected due to their style or just overall use of the rapier as it is primarily a thrusting weapon. going for horizontal strikes are not only extremely risky, but a death sentence for marie if the opponent counters. it is slow, only a guess mainly used to create distance to push the opponent back, im yet to kill anyone effectively with any of her horizontal strikes, wound and cripple, ya..but nothing else as of yet.

notable mention: time stamp 5:30 epic dodge.

Use her horizontal strikes to counter-strike your opponents weapon and then stab them. Your blade will follow their blade and usually ends up with a winning blow.

i went back and tried what you suggested, and it has opened up a slew of other options i was able to perform against all characters with marie

ill post a video of the results tomorrow.

Im glad to help! This technique is known as "Wind and Bind" and is a core part of real life swordplay. In this game, everyone can use it, but it is especially effective with Marie.

I personally dont use it and will only use it out of desperation.

I enjoyed that video OP. Was good to see how people play. Be interesting to see the first persons breakdown videos or strategy type stuff. Good stuff :)

That's a longsword technique though, right ?

Yes. And using it with a rapier against a non-rapier weapon is a monstrous act that should be banned everywhere.

I wished that all her cuts were just removed from the movelist. Even master Agrippa of the Italian school advised his students never to cut with a rapier, because you just open yourself up and lose the point alignment. Basically, with rapier, you should be pointing against the opponent's torso or head at all times. if your blade gets bound or struck aside (batuta), you should move back, do a cavation (circular movement with the point to the other side of opponent's blade), and resume your thrusting threat. That way, a weapon like longsword cannot even advance on you, they would just got impaled, they have to deal with your point first. And if they do, you nimbly move back, realign, and counter.

Unlike what people think, rapier is a physically demanding weapon despite being "light" in weight.

Each time i mistakenly perform a cut in the game (they are mixed in the moveset), it feels like a mistake. There are even some obscure wavings I cannot even fathom their purpose (active block, or some sort of deflection?). Hopefully, some sort of documentation and/or explanation will come later. I could not even make full-strenght cuts with the longsword at first, but then I discovered they are sort of "hidden" behind the guards.

I still miss her old hairstyle, why the ♥♥♥♥ did the devs remove it?

Tried out slashing attacks, definitely mix results. overall they have their uses, but very situational.

the most difficult thing is having a nagging imp on my shoulder regulating me to just stabbing thrusts, much of that i fault dabbling into fencing using a Epee.

that said, take a look at the video, there were other clips outside the video were i was doing alot of leg cuts, but those are dangerous because the opponent would just power through them and hit my coconut (head). same with other slashing moves, Marie's recovery is not like the other swordsman, so i was fighting to remain conservative with any of her slashing attacks.

Last video,

gotten more effective with horizontal slashes, now able to kill my opponent using them.

6:40 mark gone so far as drawing X's on Gedeons arm and his hat with the leg stun setup https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FUZYtZyr5w
