Zweihänder
Can we get a character wielding a Zweihänder? It would be an outdiing style of fencing/sword fights in the 17th centurie but probably still practiced. You could do a Landsknecht character for example or an bodygard Charakter with a huge zweihänder. I'd would be epic to see a this uniqe fightingstyle implemented into the game with ur great physics based fighting style. For inspiration maybe stuff like shown in this demonstraition:

Usually when someone recommends a weapon/style, it's pretty cringe-worthy. This would actually make sense, though.

A DLC (after the game is out of Early Access) with a different time period warriors may be a good idea. As for the base game, there are plenty of different "classess" from 17th century Europe - rapiers, messers, palaches, broadswords, longswords, sideswords, smallswords... and, if possible, we can go further - montantes, left-hand daggers, shields, berdishes, shepherd axes, spears, pickaxes, maces... insane variety, and they all fit the setting.

Hey, one of the characters has a longsword. So this is not a history lesson, it's more like "what HEMA lovers would want in a game". Historical accuracy is in the second place, but still relevant (so, no Roman with a gladius and no Aztec with macuahuitl in the base game, but a great great grandfather's longsword or montante is ok ).

And polearms - I havent tested yet, but I will in the future and we'll see.

If I remember correctly somewhere else he said it would be hard to ballance this weapon, because basically what chances would any of current fighters had against him? So maybe later in some DLC you will get some polearms and montane and they will be allowed only to fight against each other?

I do love me some Zweihander, but I would like to point out that those swords really are not suited as duelling weapons and can instead be seen as a sort of area denial tool, great for a body guard to keep multiple opponents at bay, or for a single fighter holding down a chokepoint, but it relies on its reach and momentum to deter attackers from approaching. So the Montantero player would whirl around their sword until becomming tired and thus slow enough for the opponent to exploit this weakness.
Interestingly, it would probably be more exhausting to keep the blade ready, strike reactionary and stop the blade than to keep it moving because in the latter case you only need to keep up the momentum, not accelerate or decellerate which requires additional force.

Greatswords aren't exactly the best dueling weapon. Most CQC would have to be done halfsword style, plus there's the fact that, like polearms, it's a job specific weapon. You don't just stroll about town with it over your shoulder for no reason.

The cool thing about a massive weapon would be if you land a big hit, there will be no second/third match, ala "Bushido" (1983).:47_thumb_up:

Perhaps not a zweihander, but maybe a slightly smaller sword like the bolognese spada-duo-mani. Those were designed for dueling purposes.

Claymore is already confirmed, a zwei isn't that much of a stretch I guess

Except it's likely a REAL claymore, which isn't a two-handed greatsword.

I would go with first one, but who knows.

I'm putting all my money on the first one, since that's a real claymore.

"Claymore" just means "sword" in Gaelic. Arguing which one seems pointless.

And of course two handed swords were used for dueling, there are mane pages dedicated to it, as well as illustrations in contemporary fechtbuchs:

You're right on both counts, but its still not common in a duel setting like that which the game has put forward so far. Now if the story mode is going to feature judicial duels, or ceremony duels between mercenaries, my opinion might change.

As it is, if people think Isabella is busted, they might want to reconsider asking for ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ spear length swords.
Kamamura Mar 20, 2021 @ 5:02pm
Judical duels would be cool, perhaps there could be a whole different game only about medieval courts and law, where you could play a judge, an executioner, or a bailiff, and a portion of the court dealings would end up with judical duels.

Well, since Hellish Quart is a fencing game based on 17th century, I'd bet all my money on a broadsword. Since 2h claymores were used in 14-15 centuries.

[Quietly put away my nunchuk suggestion]
Seriously, I agree. Such recommendation are usually from people who think X would be a cool weapon to have but have zero knowledge about weapons in real life. Hellish Quart is about simulating real weapon fights.
