Is this game sponsored by Red Dragon Armoury?
Training mode customization options lead me to believe yes! :P

I hate those Red Dragon gloves. I have two pairs and both just fall apart at the seams.

I'll consider them. I'll need some proper heavy gloves when my longsword finally arrives and it's that or the old SPES heavies.

Why not use the 5 finger special by SG or the mittens? Theyre better than red dragons and theyre more smaller than other methods, especially if you get the extended cuff version. Anything is better than red dragons.

Yes, what I was saying is that my options are SG mittens or SPES heavies. I don't think I want to risk a 5 finger glove, we have rather heavy-hitting swords in my club. I bought the Red Dragons some years ago thinking of waster sparring because I didn't own a steel longsword at the time, and when they started to fall apart my instructor gave me his pair (which was almost as beat-up as mine) until I could get new gloves.

Aight sorry, misread what you said. Hopefully you get something, but avoid the SPES heavies, theyre kinda ♥♥♥♥ imho.

Yeah, Skalagrim talks about how the fingered gloves are not at all advisable to use. He talks about how he's seen people get their fingers broken from relatively light hits. Stick with the mittens if you value your fingers!!

Only true if you do longsword (although ive seen some experienced fencers use the 5 finger SGs), if you do other weapons such as sidesword, arming sword, or sabre its kinda recommended.

Still hell of a lot safer than red dragons which are infamous for being deceptively unsafe.

I prefer Red Dragons to Neyman Pig Hooves gloves. :3

But yes, I understand they aren't appropriate for steel competition with longsword or sword and buckler, considering how hard people tend to go.

I've known people who did vigorous sparring with plain leather gloves back in the day before good padded gloves were available, but in those settings I think everyone tended to pull their strikes to avoid injury. To be clear, serious injuries could and did occur especially to fingers but to many other body parts as well.

Nowadays, probably in part because there is much better padding available, sometimes you see people go nuts in steel sparring. At Combat Con recently I saw one competitor baseball bat swing his longsword at his opponent and take a cut to the head at the same time. I don't think anyone would try a kamikazee tactic like that for the possibility of getting a point in a competition without the benefit of today's excellent padding because they'd be afraid of getting hurt.

That's one reason I prefer rapier. The blades are lighter and less likely to injure you with a cut and at the same time you have built in steel hand protection due to cups, sails, etc. on your rapier and dagger.

You know what feels amazing? Taking a hit on the knuckle bow or cup and not feeling it, instead of taking it on the glove.

I wanted to get those, but i couldnt justify the price, not to mention they seem to only fit 1 hand size.

The place I ordered them from took a bunch of my hand measurements. They fit really well and came out to ~$350 CAD

huh very interesting, always thought it was a one size fits all kinda deal. Might look into them, because i was going to get their 5 finger special for sidesword.

If you're ordering from them already I recommend you go with the Infinity Glove Hourglass cuff. I know a few people who have been pretty disappointed with the 5 finger special. Check out this review https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MD082cb4YE8&t=661s
