Editing weapon damage (skill.cfg) not working?
Trying to make a 5x DMG mod for ♥♥♥♥♥ and giggles where everybody dies faster, including the player.

I'm trying to edit skill.cfg under Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life\czeror by setting all the sk_monster and sk_player multipliers to 5 (head, chest, stomach, arms, legs).

Despite this, it still takes six bullets from an M4 Carbine to the chest to kill somebody, or two headshots from the M4 to kill somebody.

Am I even editing the right file?

i don't think skill.cfg is even used in deleted scenes

Darn. Any other way to edit the damages? I've got GCFScape but haven't used it much.

sadly i don't think there is a way, the damage values are probably hard coded

oof

that's a damn shame because I love doing 5x DMG mods for videogames to reduce bullet sponge

why do you need these mods as they were designed by the developers?

Personal preference. If a game I play has modding support, then I will mod it to have increased damage, either to make the combat less bullet spongy or to make the game even harder, or both.

DS is annoying and the enemies are a bit sponge-y, but typically will go down in one headshot, so I tihnk they're trying to incentivise more precise aiming

Maybe try setting skill.cfg to Read-Only after editing it? It's possible the game is just changing it back when you launch it

I guess? The skill.cfg file is weird as hell though, it keeps referencing enemies/weapons from Half Life 1 despite being located in "Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life\czeror."

I'll consider doing that if I ever reinstall DS.

the skill.cfg is just a leftover from half-life, i checked it out and it's the same one as from hl1

Damn DS and its love of hardcoding everything

That sucks. I'd love to modify DS to be more "tactical," because enemies taking 6 bodyshots to kill (while the player can take several dozen bullets before dying) isn't the kind of gameplay I'm into. STALKER-style gameplay where everyone is fragile and dies quickly is more fun.

Actually this skill.cfg file is useful in game difficulty modification
The skills.cfg can be used in a custom mod to define certain properties within CS:CZDS. Some entites in this FGD are tagged with a 'help'
dialog that can be accessed in JACK that will let you know. But, here is a quick reference list.
- sk_hgrunt_health (CT/T health)
- sk_turret_health (Turret health)
- sk_miniturret_health (Turret health)
- sk_sentry_health (Turret health)
- sk_suitcharger (Armor charger amount)
- sk_battery1 (Armor pickup amount)
- sk_healthkit (Healthkit pickup amount)
- sk_scientist_heal (Scientist 'syringe boost' amount)
- sk_plr_buckshot (Player shotgun)
