Bring FREQ back !
I just want "-freq" back since I can't play CS 1.6 under 100Hz (no placebo, please... )
It seems to me like someone has the ambition to render CS 1.6 unplayable and behave worse than a next-gen game on a slow-end computer... (I wonder why that is... )
Not to mention 60FPS on an old game engine without motion blur or other "artifact masking" techniques on a decent CRT monitor gives anybody a headache within minutes.
The frequent Alt-Tabbing while gaming and other crap like "OGL 1.0 can't do it" it's just an excuse for using upscale to desktop resolution in-game, thus forcing CRT owners to experience a gameplay even worse than on an LCD display (which btw it's now favoured)
This is the only advantage that I can think of, regarding the upscaling to Desktop resolution since LCD's/Flat Displays have the lowest latency at the max. (native) resolution because there's no need for them to upscale the game's low resolution to their native resolution. Your GPU does this way faster.
On a CRT, on the other hand things are quite different...
You are forced to use Desktop resolution's low refresh rate and you can't benefit of higher refresh rates of lower resolutions... For ex: 1440x1080 = 60~85Hz, 640x480 = 100~160Hz
It's a shame that most changes were for the better, but when it comes to the most important part, the game falls short...
CS 1.6 always was a pain when it came to the video rendering part.
Now it took that pain and "upscaled" it at the level of art.

640x480 nice resolution small viewfinder
on the resolution you'll have more fps 640x480 and monitor 75 hz :D
Downloading the character models for cs 1.6 for more fps ;) :)

I don't have FPS problems, my PC runs current gen games nice and dandy.
I have Monitor Refresh Rate problem (No Mode Change [Monitor Hz] when I open CS 1.6)

My launch options: -gl -nofbo -w 640 -freq 100
My Desktop Resolution: 1440x1080/60Hz
When I open CS 1.6: 640x480/60Hz
My monitor 640x480 modes: 60/72/75/85/100/120Hz

I don't want to use RefreshLock.

I don't want to change my desktop resolution to 640x480/100Hz every time I open CS...
I just want "-freq" launch option to work again. Problem solved.

You can't. Only VALVE can. But I get the impression that they do not want to. They want to render CS 1.6 unplayable...

AGREED , and you are right -freq doesn't work properly :/ , am currently using refresh lock for it BUT as you said I dont like forcing stuff on my montior + using refreshlock sometimes can be risky unless you know what you are doing! , Valve please fix CS 1.6 , or at least listen to gamers and professional ones about what CS:GO needs !!!

Soo... after about 2 years was the "-freq" problem solved... ?

After about 2 years pause, I've switched to an LCD because of no more competitive gaming and the slightly higher resolution (1440 to 1920... 4:3 to 16:9 basically... ) I still have a CRT monitor around, but I want to know if I should even bother dusting it off...
