How to create a new Server

How can I create a new server where I can invite my friend to play with me? So that I can change setting and maps as needed.

Most of the tutorials are pretty old and not sure if they are outdated. Wondering if there is anything new, want to play on steam but with friends around the city. They all have the game on steam.

If it's within possibility, make a LAN party like the good ol' days.

If it's not possible, then make a server using HLDS (dedicated server). This is temporary if you want to have a taste at how to run a server using the tools given to you by default. If you want to have a fully fledged server with commands, then the only way to do it is to search for a provider to host your server on. Although I'm not sure where you may come from, most server providers happen to be in EU, Germany/Lithuania/Latvia/Estonia/etc.

If you're a 'murican or Aussie, then unfortunately luck is not on your side as I don't know any provider that hosts servers in either of these regions.

get a raspery pie start steam HL dedicated server under windows .. set game and install mods like amxmodx to administer the server ...
or get a linux Vserver and set it up .. i posted a Steamcmd toouturial in the Linux server section a few month ago including startscript via screen mod
