I think the reason as to why so many people play 1.6 after so many years is probably due to lots of reasons. There is something just so special that makes 1.6 a great game. The graphics are not the most important thing when it comes to games; yes it is an important role but it does not define the game.
Yes CSS is definitely better in terms of graphics, but if you had played CS 1.6 long enough, you will see that the movement, gun play, community, etc, is just way different than that of CSS, and a lot of people, myself included, love the feel of 1.6 more than CSS.
Source even at its launch, was heavily criticized for being too different than 1.6 (and bugs/glitches that happened when it released).
Unlike most people that still play 1,6, I actually grew up with CSS. But after trying 1.6 like 8 years ago on my friend's computer, I realized why so many people fell in love with it, and rightfully so.
Yes nostalgia plays a big role in the game's community but there is no denying that 1.6 is most likely the best CS out there.
There's also something special about 1.6 that makes the game relaxing of sorts. Trust me, go to a TDM server, lower the audio, play some music or something and trust me you will love it.
Both games are awesome, there is no denying, and definitely miles better than CSGO, but to say that 1.6 is worse than Source just because of its graphics is kinda of a dumb statement (no offense). You know what they say, never judge a book by its cover, and rightfully so.
I hope this answered your question, and give 1.6 another shot. It's truly a game worth playing, even 20+ years later.
__ player models are pretty dumb in CSS. it's almost like they are sliding on the ground and kill animations are worse then in cs1.6
__ in CSS shooting isn't as satisfying as in 1.6 with almost any gun. sounds are also bit off.
__ M4 Silencer and AK47 in 1.6 are two of the best weapons ever included in FPS games. and it's still holds up after more then 20 years. Everything about those guns are on point: Inspect animation, reload animation, sounds, shooting, recoil, kill satisfaction etc.
__ CS 1.6 In game community isn't as toxic as CSGO communities. Everyone just going along their gameplays. I think in the later games there is lot more ego involved. especially in CSGO with competitive game mode which is honestly a crap experience unless your are queuing up with 4 friends. Also for some reason maybe because of huge pro scene -- most people think that it's super important to be so sick with you skills and make fun of someone who isn't as if there's no room for pure enjoyment in the game anymore.
__Movement. -- I was never really good at movement in any CS games but even then I prefer 1.6 movement overall because both in CSS and CSGO I feel like I'm floating around in honey when I move.
__even if 1.6 is more unrealistic then the other 2 games, it's still more rewarding to players with higher skills. It's often in 1.6 when player can frag up 3-4 kills with ease given if he plays the situation correctly. whereas in CSGO you mostly trade frags (which again is more realistic)
__ 1.6 is connected to times where life was much more simple. without smartphones and tech advancements. and honestly? I love the graphics.
__ casual game mode is more fun 1.6 -- in CSGO everyone tries to be better with spray patterns and one-taps ETC. less and less people play it casually which again creates toxic environment for the game.
__ there's something about CSGO that ♥♥♥♥♥ up my mental health when I play MM or Face IT as solo Q. I never really had a luxury to have more organized competitive matches with co-ordination and teamplay. And without those CSGO could be hell.
Whereas in 1.6 I can just hope in in 8x8 servers and I can try hard or do not and no one will care if I disconnect or switch to a different server.
to be continued ...
CS 1.6 - I like how the maps look like and I don't really like the gunplay.
CS: S - I like the gunplay, but don't like how maps look like.
CC:GO - I don't like how maps look like, but they have good visibility, also I think the gunplay is worse than Source but better than 1.6.
I enjoy all of them, but my favorite combination is playing CS:S on the 1.6 maps.
recoil ingame just like in real ...
ppl judge cuz pure grapich and irrelavent sh*ts cuz they are b0ts...
They play it on their computer all the time and we always play it when they come over.
As far as I can tell, this game will easily run with an active community for at least 10 more years.
I can't say the same for Source though.
My 2012 laptop that has Windows 7 can run Source just fine
How is that related? It's not about running the game, its about game's engine being crap.
He spoke the truth, source sucks. goldsrc was better.
Is it slow or is your computer slow?
all it is is
-Mostly Foreign non english servers
-Graphics look like crap
-The Phyiscs dont have ragdolls
-You cant mess around with barrells
-You cant get yourself a custom spray with the in-game menu and you need some third party
-CS 1.6 doesnt come with bots, you need to also download a third party software
-Game is too hard
-Game is full of 30 year old boomers that do nothing but play this game
-Graphics mods dont even enhance the game well.
