Why Vanilla AI has been enabled again and what's to come.
If you read the last changelog (06.01.2018), you've certainly noticed that vanilla FoC AI has been enabled again for the Galactic Conquest map. I felt like I needed to give you some indications on how the AI works and why UGC CE's custom AI was recently struggling to do anything in the GC map.

Empire at War update allowing the modded AIs to be functionnal
First of all, some among you maybe already played the original UGC mod, years ago. Boasting a huge map and other improvements, the mod also came with some "AI enhancements". Back in the days, nobody actually noticed anything wrong, for a very simple reason : XML equations in a mod folder weren't correctly read by the game.
The simplest way to prove this is to actually try to play the original UGC on the last game version. It will throw a parsing error, which it did not back in the days. There is a syntax error in one of the UGC v1.0 AI files, that wasn't detected back in the days, simply because the mod AI wasn't used by the game, at least not entirely. Now, as the game effectively uses XML\AI folder, the parsing error is detected, meaning the modded AI files are now read and used.
Petroglyph enabled this feature in one of the recent update the game recieved. By doing this, almost a dozen of mods in the workshop were unable to launch correctly because of this parsing error. These AI files are not secret, and have been widely spread on various modding websites for years, so it's not surprising to see the same file in multiple mods. Important thing now is that the game is able to read custom AI from a mod.

Mods like Republic at War were installing their AI directly in the game files, which explains why they were able to use their own AI previously.

An unknown, fatal flow in UGC AI
With all that said, it's not so surprising anymore that more than 30 people reported UGC CE's AI being docile, passive, doing nothing. All was going well before the update because vanilla AI was used for all mods, but now the modded AI files start to show their weakness, as they are loaded. And UGC v1.0 / UGC CE have been heavily affected.
Through hours of testing, I was only able to see what had already been reported : passive AI, occasionnaly building scarce troops, sometimes spamming, not building bases on conquered planets.
Through hours of investigation, I wasn't able to find the solution. Something in the UGC Ai equations is rendering the AIs passive, and I'm unable to find what it is.

Vanilla AI for the moment, and what's to come
But yesterday night I actually tried to load the base game AI, to see if a modded AI was necessary for UGC CE to be enjoyable. An truth is, as soon as the game began, the vanilla AI started to show much more activity than the modded one, proving that UGC's AI was faulty.
From now on, UGC CE will thus use vanilla AI, until I hopefully find a solution. I know the base AI is known for spamming even more, and I will do my best to find out solutions. In the meantime, you still have a good challenge ahead of you, as UGC CE finally has a true AI behind your opponent, may it be Pirates, Rebels or the Empire.

Modding the AI of this game is extremely hard, especially due to the lack of documentation. If anyone knows something that can be usefull, I'm taking it willingly.
I hope you understand and will enjoy UGC CE's unique experience even more now.

Thank you for playing. :-)
