I actually tried uploading Deathcraft just now, did 3 vpk's/7, and couldn't do the rest. What a shame...
Allowing to upload zipped VPKs would save a ton of bandwidth for everyone and probably help with this issue, i hope devs are at least working to support that in the future.
500MB this is really small, full of weigh 1GB or more. Totally agree with the speaker =).

Wow...... that´s disgusting.
That would also concern our little Chernobyl project (still work in progress) which is already sized about 1,28GB entire content.
But does it mean that the space of each developer will added together? Or will steam just use the 500MB from the uploader? I guess the second....... hopefully Valve will increase the storage size soon.

500mb.... how does this encourage people to make more than a handful of projects? come on guys lets get it on!
500Gb very small. I think need 1GB or 2GB
@Recetlin
Every developer have 500 mb of space, so you need 3 steam accounts to upload all of your content. You have to split your campaign in 7 parts at least (because Workshop only support vpk files of 200MB maximum size), and then Dev1 will upload part 1-3 for example, Dev2 will upload parts 4 and 5, Dev3 will upload part 6 and 7.
But here is another problem!
You can't update vpk files that have been uploaded by other Devs in your team. So if one of the Devs is not in place, you can't update your campaign at all!

Yeah actually I understand it too...
That´s very sad for huge campaigns....
Actually, people have 2 GB for their screenshots, which is even more funny.
Probably Valve could insert a function to allow downloading workshop-items from mirrors.
That won´t solve the problem at least, but so it could possible that big campaigns also could appear in the workshop without using storage space.

I would gladly switch to 500 MB for my steam cloud so that developers have 2 GB worth of space per vpk upload. These campaigns are more than worth it, and really who is going to use 2 GB worth of screen shots? Even someone like me who hits F12 in skyrim all the time, my folder isn't bigger than 200 MB. What Valve is doing here is stifling creativity, it's nice that they realize modding is important to L4D2, but you can't simply put a file size that low on a modding community. This is why the Skyrim workshop is a bit of a joke too and why I have to use Skyrim Nexus to get the content mods, while the Workshop is mostly single items and small bug fixes.

Hmm was hoping the 500mb limit was just an initial thing to get the workshop up and running. This limit really does push the big lengthy campaigns away. Its these campaigns that take the most time to do ( 1 to 2 years) and yet cant be uploaded.

Suggestion: Valve - have a request function to allow certain mappers to get a higher quota??

It will be easy to see which mapper needs the extra space - maybe just give people more based on how much time in the auth tools :)
You guys should start a petition. I think that most people would like to give away their 2GB picture upload in order to give developers more upload space.

I personnally would gladly switch to 500mb and give you 1.5gb of content upload.

I believe Valve allocates space dynamically, you don't have fixed 2 GB for screenshots, waiting to be filled on some disk in the cloud. It gets transparently increased when it's needed.
I want to contribute my mods to the workshop, but Valve is making it way too freaking hard :(.
Oh well, guess there's still l4dmaps.com!
