Zoom Player Steam Edition has been released:

We will not be monitoring this page, please post your questions on the store's forum section.

We're getting close to a beta version of Zoom Player Steam Edition, hopefully this week.

The purpose of the beta is to test the Steam installation process which works very differently than a standard installer.

Beyond testing the installation procedure, the beta version will include initial and exclusive support for XInput devices such as the XBOX360 controller.

Thanks Jonny!

Zoom player is my fav video player.
bLight  [author] Feb 11, 2014 @ 3:11pm
Just an FYI, I posted information on the XBOX360 controller support in the announcements section, along with a screenshot of an initial work design!

Thanks you!

Little Kitten:
That is the plan more or less.
Shadrach Feb 9, 2014 @ 5:48am
Forget VLC, MPC, WMP and the rest, Zoom is the best media player, hands down. The UI is very smooth and nice-looking compared to the rest of them that are to put it nicely, "UI disasters"...

Lots of features to tweak, and at the same time easy to use for newbs. No need to install codec packs, it automatically installs all codecs you need. Been using ZP for years, and use it for all video playback.
Little Kitten Feb 8, 2014 @ 2:23pm
Maybe you can think of all kind of cool things like zoom in etc and let the users set the keys in the settings. like if you want to bind a key you can select from a list of actions. so can you bind the keys you want. maybe some want the play on the A button but some maybe on when you click on the stick. etc.

same for like maybe next file or previous file some want it on the buttons other on the RB/RT or LB/LT

I need some input on how to best integrate the XInput controllers.
From what I can see, there are a fixed number of digital buttons, two analog buttons with which react to pressure and 2 sticks:

Assigning functions to the digital buttons would be easy, but what about the two analog buttons and the sticks, what should they do? I can think of a few cool things like zoom in on one button, zoom out on the other buttons and one of the sticks to pan.

I welcome other ideas and ideas for default function mapping for the digital keys.

Does anyone know if the official Steam Controller is XInput compatible?
bLight  [author] Feb 6, 2014 @ 9:56am
I received the XBOX360 controller, we'll begin adding native support for it soon.
Little Kitten Feb 3, 2014 @ 10:06am
i have zoomplayer max atm would be nice to get a steam key also for current users.
bLight  [author] Feb 1, 2014 @ 11:24am
I placed an ordered for an 'XBOX360 Wireless Controller for Windows' and did some more research into XInput. I am hoping that support for XInput devices could be added before v8.7 goes final, we'll see.
Gradash Feb 1, 2014 @ 2:02am
Very good! With this support, this player can be turned in a defaul media player for users :)

Will be mine
bLight  [author] Jan 31, 2014 @ 3:51pm
Just to confirm, I'm about to purchase an XBOX360 Controller for Windows and plan to implement XInput support in general. And per Zoom Player tradition, it will be the tweakable to the MAX.

Automatic subtitle download is not a current feature.
Depending on the level of success here at Steam, we hope to generate enough revenue to allow us to add such features in future versions.

Thank you!
I need to get one of those, I'm pretty certain I could get one to control Zoom Player as-is using an automation tool like Event Ghost.
Hobbs Jan 28, 2014 @ 4:04am
Oh, I love this software! Its automated codec installer is "the" thing!
Controller support would make it just perfect!
Does the latest build support subtitle find and download via hash (a la MPC)?

Congrats, nevertheless!
Gradash Jan 23, 2014 @ 11:11am
Use the Xinput (360 controller) as base.
modworkshop | Tatsuto Jan 23, 2014 @ 5:04am
Xinput is DirectInput. It just got a namechange at some point.
bLight  [author] Jan 23, 2014 @ 5:00am
I did some initial readup, for the 360 controller, the XInput API is probably most suited. I believe directinput is already supported by event ghost's joystick plugin and there is an event ghost plugin for controlling Zoom Player, so you can start using that right away, but some buttons may not be supported as they require the XInput API.
modworkshop | Tatsuto Jan 22, 2014 @ 2:05pm
That should be all you need.
bLight  [author] Jan 22, 2014 @ 1:55pm
I believe support could potentially be added for this controller, there may even be existing options like or the joystick plugin using event ghost (probably the easiest option).
modworkshop | Tatsuto Jan 22, 2014 @ 12:21pm
Xbox 360 controller. If you make it compatible with that then you can lable it "big picture" in the store.
bLight  [author] Jan 22, 2014 @ 12:17pm
We already suppprt a fullscreen navigation interface, not exactly "big picture mode" as how steam does it, but you get similar functionality and usability.

Good idea on the joystick support, any specific model you recommend for our testing?

romulous Jan 21, 2014 @ 6:54pm
Congrats on being greenlit! :)
modworkshop | Tatsuto Jan 21, 2014 @ 3:46pm
I 2nd what Brandish said.
Gradash Jan 21, 2014 @ 3:12pm
Hey, add support to Joysticks and Big Picture Mode, we need a player to use in this mode :)
SeTeT Jan 13, 2014 @ 4:03pm
А почему бы и не приобрести если не заломят цену, в куче дорогого хлама нет заявленных тут параметров. И есть Русификация!

Плеер хороший . Никому не помешает.Это будет гораздо лучше ,чем скачивать какой-либо пиратский плеер.
fisilfox Dec 31, 2013 @ 6:37am
Хорошо если с программой будет постовлятся что смотреть(это важно)
И если этот плеер сделает что то что бы другой плеер ни кто не ставил, что нибудь особое. Потому как у всех плееров есть все...

Zoom Player is best option for Home Theater PC due to its Navigation Interface, it allows to control and even switch to different video file on your hard drive with remote control (remote + USB dongle costs 25$) without ever getting up from your sofa, just as if you were using DVD Player. Same as Media Player, but without compatibility issues (Media Players may not play some video formats or not show you some Subtitles, unlike PC that can play all file formats by installing codecs which are installed automatically by Zoom Player. When with Media Player you may need to update firmware that could be released after months and still not play certain file formats).
McTrollin Oct 30, 2013 @ 10:18pm
Been using this for years because vlc gave me grief one day and I had no reason to switch back.
AcidBurn Oct 5, 2013 @ 9:22am
looks nice
bLight  [author] Oct 2, 2013 @ 3:48pm
That depends on Stream, if we get Greenlit, we want to have a free version as well.
Saiuke Sep 25, 2013 @ 4:08pm
Visual interessante, proposta bem lúcida.
Addexius Sep 25, 2013 @ 3:24am
Good idea!
OmegaNine Sep 24, 2013 @ 11:55pm
Is the idea to sell this? There are tons of really well made free players. I would worry your markert is the same as VLC, and VLC is open source
xTeReXz Sep 19, 2013 @ 11:39am
Cool Idea! Up to Steam!
bLight  [author] Sep 15, 2013 @ 7:55am
You can find usage tutorial videos that show the various functions at:

There are screenshots of the entire UI at:

Zoom Player is in fact very stable, there may be something specific to your system that may cause instability, but we can usually resolve such issue in our forum, so check it out:

I'm not sure which standard window functions you refer to.
The space key can easily be adjusted to do play/pause under Adv. Options / Interface / Keyboard.
