Saving Kate (Episode 2)

This guide will contain constant spoilers about one of the major choices of Episode 2, so consider yourself warned.

At the end of Episode 2, Max is faced with the dilemma of getting Kate off the roof. How she resolves this dilemma is up to the player.

Kate can survive the episode no matter what choices are made in Episode 1 and Episode 2. Here are the 6 prompts one goes through in order to save her life (though the final prompt doesn't always occur).

A clarification of terms

Throughout this guide, I will refer to Kate either taking the dialog Max says well or not taking it well.

What I mean when Kate doesn't take a dialog option well is that she responds angrily, the shot swtiches to below her, and then she takes a step back.

If she takes what Max says well, neither of these shots occur, and Max will move towards Kate. Here's what that looks like for prompts it's possible for Kate to take poorly:

Kate will not survive if she takes two of the prompts poorly.

The first prompt is dependent upon whether or not you intervened when David was harassing Kate.

• If you did intervene, both options ("Things will get better/You matter, not just to me") are equally good
  
• If you took a photo, the options are "I’ve been bullied too/I was scared/I had no idea/I wanted proof." The only option that Kate will take well is "I was scared."
  

The second prompt is dependent upon whether or not you answered her phone call.

[If you did not erase Kate's whiteboard in Episode 1, the dialog is slightlly different, but the options remain the same]

• If you answered Kate's phone call, both options ("You’re my friend/I’m here for you") are equally good
  
• If you did not answer Kate's phone call, the options are "It was in silent mode/My phone died/I was with Chloe/Thought it was Warren." The only option that Kate will take well is "It was in silent mode."
  

The third prompt is dependent upon whether or not you told Kate to go to the police

• If you told Kate to go to the police, both options (“Nathan is involved/You were drugged”) are equally good.
  
• If you told Kate not to go to the police, the options are “I’m gathering proof/I wasn’t sure/I needed more time/Too dangerous for us.” Only “I’m gathering proof” will be taken well by Kate.
  

The fourth prompt does not depend on anything.

The options are “Everybody will forget/Be strong/There are billions of videos.” The only option that Kate takes well is “Be strong.”

The fifth prompt does not depend on anything

The options are “Your mother/Your father/Your brothers/Your sisters.” Kate only has sisters, and her mother is not very supportive at the moment (which you can find out by searching her room). The options that Kate takes well are “Your father” and “Your sisters.”
[Max's dialog will be slightly different if you searched Kate's room, but the outcome is the same]

The sixth prompt occurs only if one of the previous prompts ended with Kate taking a step back.

The options are “Suicide is a sin/Matthew 11:28/Proverbs 21:15.” If you looked in Kate’s bible, you may have noticed that she has both of these bible verses on post-it notes. However, she has crossed out the verse from Proverbs. The answer that gets her off the roof is “Matthew 11:28.”

aw man i failed the 6th choice, well what happens happens, im not about to go back just because i want her saved, its life, incredibly sad to know that i couldve saved her had i answered matthew 11:28, i even read everything in her room, i just didnt remember

Wow i'm very suprised by amount of people who couldn't/didn't save Kate :O I guess watching a lot of drama-tv-series and having major in psychology/Sociology + being very attentive to details in her room/game did play a BIG part in making all the right choices

I quoted the proverbs. I really thought I saved her. Feel pretty sad. I did wonder whether it might make things easier with Chloe
