Description
*THE ORIGINAL GAME THAT INSPIRED THE MEGA-HIT ANIME SERIES!!

* The 58th year of Shouwa, early summer
It's June, and the summer heat has arrived earlier than it does most years.
By day there are crickets, and by night there are cicadas.

We're in Hinamizawa, a small village in the countryside.
There are fewer than two thousand people here. But every year, there is an event.

This event is a mysterious death.
(The series has run from 1979 to 1983)

On a certain day in June, someone dies, and someone else goes missing.
The series of deaths is connected to the upheaval surrounding the dam construction project.
A murder case that was covered up is being reenacted.
Is it a conspiracy? A coincidence? Or perhaps a curse?

Someone who was supposed to be there isn't.
Someone who wasn't supposed to be there is.

Someone who was alive last night is dead now.
And someone who is here right now isn't alive.

So, there is no way to avert tragedy. There is no choice but to give up.
But don't give up.

Only you can stand up to this.

* Higurashi When They Cry is a sound novel.

The music, backgrounds and characters work together to create a world that is the stage of a novel for the user to read. They laugh and cry and get angry. The user takes the point of view of the protagonist to experience the story.

An important point to note here is the absence of what is commonly called choices and forks. This means that you are freed from the tedious saving and loading, the searching for events and routes, and can instead enjoy the story from the beginning to the end.

Nevertheless, this is a game, not a novel.
As the player, you will be able to unravel the mystery surrounding the events in the game as the scenarios unfold.

You can ponder on the nature of the mystery by yourself when you're on the train, you can discuss it with your friends, you can search for clues on the Internet or you can even file complaints on the circle's website. The choice is yours.

This is Higurashi When They Cry, a serial murder themed sound novel that doesn't offer you any choices, but does offer you the opportunity to search for the truth yourself. Will you fear? Will you become engrossed? Will you face the challenge? Only you can decide how to enjoy the story.

@Materia User. Oops I didn't mean I had them on Steam, sorry if that was implied, I have found a few free ones through various channels, but not on here (Higurashi demo for first chapter, Juniper's Knot, Digital: A Love Story). I'd just like to see more of paid-for visual novels make their way onto steam, as I hesitate to give credit card details and the like to any other sites that i dont really know.

Though I have seen "Long Live the Queen" trying to get through Greenlight, and one by name of "Magical Diary" which doesn't particularly appeal to me, but it's there.

@snowshark I'm curious what visual novels you know about currently on steam? I would love to see your games, but your profile is private so I guess I'll try asking here =)
And I have to agree that I wish there was a category for them as well.

As a matter of interest, what other Visual Novels are there on Steam right now? Unfortunately there is no subcategory for them, but I've been really enjoying what Visual Novels I can find, and would love to get my hands on a few others.

@Yagami could you stop spreading lies around with your obvious photoshopped image. You did the same on MangaGamer's forum. If you search on Steam for any of the visual novels in the image you find nothing.
