Animation & HUD Update
STATUS BAR



The status bar, which is displayed on the bottom left hand side of the screen covers the basic dynamic elements: HEALTH, INFECTION, ARMOR and STAMINA.

The Health attribute will change depending on which either the character takes damage or is healed. There is no health auto-health regeneration in Cold Comfort, so your medic is your new BFF, so make sure to keep them alive and safe!

The Infection level is used to display the amount of GSM (Gamma Strain Mutation) the player character has received. “Normal” AI zombies do not divvy out GSM infection levels, rather this is reserved for the Gamma Prime. If a character is attacked by a Gamma Prime, then in addition to taking damage, their infection level will increase. This is a progressive status, so watch it! It is imperative to find vaccination as soon as possible to ensure that you don’t become a zombie yourself.

Not all characters have armor, but those who do, covet it. If a player is wearing armor, then usually, the damage is firstly absorbed by the armor, depending on if that particular location is covered. Once the armor is depleted, then damage is taken directly.

There are a number of actions that you can perform in Cold Comfort, whether it be sprinting, climbing, fighting, building, each requires stamina. Each character class has a different stamina, so find the class that’s right for you.

ITEM BAR



Each character can carry a total of 6 items in their inventory. In the pre-game stage, players can pick and choose the appropriate layout to optimize their playing style. These items can however be dropped and new ones can be acquired throughout the course of the game. Many of the items are class specific items and can only initially be chosen by that class, that doesn’t however prevent other classes from picking up these items if found throughout the course of gameplay.


SLEDGEHAMMER ANIMATION




Deciding on all of the relevant assets required and getting them done individually, and FINALLY putting them together is a GREAT feeling. Now, it may not look like much, but having the hands that we made in conjunction with the “Anderson & Stone” Sledgehammer break apart those rocks is, well, it’s greatly satisfying.

Oh, one thing we should mention is that Cold Comfort does NOT require you to mine for resources! Breaking apart the rocks was simply for demonstration purposes. 🙂

BARRICADING



Sometimes in Cold Comfort, it’s a good idea to impede your opponents with whatever means possible. That may be a tripwire mine, a bear trap…or BARRICADES!

Each character class has the optional ability to equip themselves with hammer and nails which allows them to put up wooden planks on doors or windows. You’ll have to find the material, but once you get it, you’ll be hammerin’ away in no time.

NEXT STEPS

Wackin’ everything together and praying for the best usually isn’t the best approach- but it’s worked for us so far. But now is when we really have to put all of these moving parts together and attempt to make something comprehensive and easily digestible for future players.

Please note that these aspects are aspirational, and intended to provide an overview of the our intentions for the game as it evolves. It is not a promise or guarantee that these features will be added within the outlined intervals, or that they will be added at all.

Keep in mind that this is a living list, and as such will constantly change. Things will be added, moved, and removed. Also, this list is not meant to be all-encompassing — at any given time, we are likely working on things that are not on this list. And finally, we may also work on things in secret and exclude this from the list so that they are more of a surprise!

Cold Comfort is a Multiplayer Zombie Tactical Shooter (MZTS?!) with a focus on co-op and environmental destruction. It is the illegitimate love child between Rainbow Six Siege and Left 4 Dead.





The players – survivors and zombies alike – are thrown into a hostile game world where they need to make a simple choice: Will they play as a team or will they try to survive on their own? This choice is forced onto them by an atmosphere of imminent danger and the overwhelming odds of a world that changed too suddenly. We use classic zombie tropes and mix them with a seemingly indestructible new pathogen which causes the mutation: The Gamma Strain . Behind the curtains of this struggle for survival a much bigger story is playing out – a story involving a huge pharma corporation with a vision and all the things that can go wrong, because humanity is simply not ready for immortality.




  • An asymmetrical co-op/multiplayer horror survival game is set in the immediate aftermath of the zombie apocalypse

In Cold Comfort, playing together as a team is often the key to survival. Team up with your friends in either intense PVP or PVE settings and choose the right tactics to assure your victory. Optimize your team to assure that you have a fighting chance.




Each character class will have a number of upgrade options which will allow players to customize not only their gameplay style but also the appearance.


STAHP. Hammer Time!


There are two teams, Survivors and Gamma Prime as playable characters with unique skills – depending on which of the five classes per faction the player chooses. One faction usually acts as attacking force while the other one tries to defend itself by placing traps, barricading entrances and much more. The more players work together on accomplishing a certain task, the faster and/or stronger the end result (barricade/trap) will be. The same goes for tearing these things down: Work together and you’ll get it done much, much easier. As in incentive for players to play as a zombie there are a number of perks that come with that, being able to control a horde of AI-zombies only being one of them. The matches will take about 15-20 minutes to play out on a variety of unique scenarios, each with its own challenges and flavor.




Multi-level maps combined with strong pack mentality/cohesion mechanics, moral conundrums and survivor fortifications make Cold Comfort a heart thumping visceral gaming experience which mixes organized tactical group planning with split second decision making in real world scale battles with up to 5 players per side.
