Invisiboots

Description
I created an invisibility enchantment and spell that also grants Detect Movement. Friendlies will glow blue, while enemies glow red. The enchantment invisibility will only be active while sneaking, while the spell version is permanent for 10 mins.

I always liked the chameleon enchantments from Oblivion, and this was my attempt at emulating them for Skyrim. Sadly true emulation was beyond my skills.

This mod also adds a set of enchantable Thieves' guild and Nightingale armor. See below for details.

Obtaining:
The enchantment is on an item called "Shadow boots". You can search for that name in the console, or find a pair in a chest, along with the nightingale armor, in the Twilight Sepulcher as a reward for finishing the quest Darkness Returns. I thought the vanilla perks that you get as a reward are kind of lame, so here is my reward.

The Thieves' guild armor is located in the guild base, in the room with the lock picking chests.

The spell version is located on a shelf in Drevis Neloren's room in the Mage College. It grants a spell called "True Invisibility". This spell is an Adept level Illusion spell costing 500 magicka with an illusion skill level of 15. The spell illusion and detection work the same as the enchantment, except you don't have to be sneaking. To stop being invisibly before the 10 minutes runs out, cast the spell again.

Using the Spell or equipping the Enchantment version will give you a follower version of this effect. It is a Novice level spell with a cost of 8 magicka. Using it on ANY friendly target will cause them to turn invisible and silent for 9 mins. You can hit them with the spell again to turn them visible. Also, if your spell runs out or you remove the enchantment, they will revert to a normal invisibility. If any follower who is affected with this spell turns hostile to you, they will lose their invisibility.

Notes:
1. Sometimes the effects will cascade over and over again, making you visible. To fix this bug, with the enchantment just stop sneaking and then start sneaking again. The spell version will need to be recast.

2. You can enchant multiple items with this enchantment, but it will not multiply the effect. Instead it will cause the invisibility to act oddly. Also, only one version can be used at once, with the enchantment overriding the spell version.

3. If an NPC was looking in your direction when you flash visible during your action, they will know where you are for a few seconds.

4. If you shoot someone in the back and no one "saw" you do it, they will run to where they think you shot from, but not attack you. If you shot someone in the back and were "seen" or you shoot them in the front, then they will attack you for a few seconds.

5. If you bump into someone, they walk into you, or hear you cast a spell, then you will be detected.

I thought notes 3-5 made the enchantment more realistic to the world.

Upgrading:
you can upgrade in two ways; Safe or easy.

Safe:
To upgrade from a previous version, create a clean save, then install this mod.
A clean save is created by:
1. Collecting all items from your inventories into a pile outside.
2. Go into a building, through a door you have to load.
3. Save here and quit the game.
4. Set the old mod to inactive, and reload your last save.
5. Save again and quit the game.
6. Set the new mod to active and load your latest save.
7. Start playing with the new mod.

Easy:
1. Load your game with the new mod.
2. Drop any item with this enchantment on the ground and pick it up again.
3. This may or may not work, but try playing with the new mod...

What is your character doing at the time? For example, are you completing an action like casting flames? I'll need some more information to try and recreate the bug so I can try and fix it. Best info would be if you get the same problem using only my mod.

I did, I even reloaded the game and it still does it

The fix is to stop sneaking, or unequip and reequip the boots. See note #1.

I have it but I've reached this bug where whenever I try to use it it just flashes invisibility on and off rapidly and the sound alerts everyone nearby and ruins the point of them

Yup, its a bug with the script engine. Just go visible and then sneak again.
