Make Your Workshop Showcase Display Your Profile Background

This guide shows you how to upload images for your workshop showcase that display aligned pieces of your profile background.

Read Me

Workshops now have 5 squares. This guide still works, and I've updated the template in this guide with a 5 slot one. Just use it and follow the guide normally. When you get your background crops, you should resize them to 150 pixels tall before editing / uploading.

Step 1

First, start by making sure you have a showcase where you want the "Your Workshop Showcase" to be. This will act as a placeholder, so any showcase will work. For example, in the image below I have my item showcase where I want my workshop showcase to be.



Now take a screenshot of your profile. Make sure it captures the placeholder showcase. Once the screenshot is taken, paste it into any image editing program.
(I'm using Photoshop, but any program will work.)

Step 2

Now that the screenshot is in your editing program, use the template below and paste it over your screenshot.



Make sure it's on a new layer so you can align the top of the template with the top of your placeholder showcase.

Step 3

Once that's done, go into your Steam inventory, find the profile background you're using, and click "View Full Size".



The full Steam background will open. Copy it and paste it into your image editing program. Make sure it's on a new layer between your screenshot and your template, and turn it's opacity to 50%.

Step 4

Now that it's at 50% opacity, zoom in to a part of your image that just shows your profile background. Move the background layer until it is aligned perfectly with your screenshot's background.



Zoom out and put your background layer back to 100% opacity. You can now view the correctly aligned areas of your profile background within the workshop showcase template.



Now you can add customization or simply crop and upload for a neat artwork profile showcase.

Extras

You can use the image below to make your workshop showcase images look transparent.



For the example below, I made the images show the profile background in a rounded square and used the rest of the space to have the transparent texture around them. I also placed a tag banner on the transparent texture:



You can get pretty creative with the workshop showcase. Happy designing!

I can't seem to get the boxes in the template to be transparent in Photoshop
