USS Montana BB 67

Description
This is a replica of the USS Montana. A powerful battleship designed by the US during world war II. It had a wopping 12 main guns with a guage of 16 inches. a broadside that would have wiped the smirk off the Yamato's face, but its orders were canceled in favor of the Essex class carriers as battleships were proven inferior to aircraft. Its been over 80 years since the ship had been first dreamed of and some games such as Battlestations and World of Warships have included it so that you can control it from the 3rd person. But to really enjoy the ship; you must see it in the first person. After I finished the Roger Blough, I wanted to make something big. I had made the Montana before in minecraft but I wasn't happy with it because it wasn't even 50% done and I tried building it as an underwater wreck which was a decision I regret. I realized that From the Depths was the perfect platform for this project. 1 year since I first undertook the project in Minecraft and two hulls, and over a week of work It's done. The finished product is absolutley beutiful. I believe that it does an exellent job of capturing the beauty and power of the Montana. I have spent hours (not in one sitting) walking around the ships decks and taking in the naval view. to prove to my self that the ship was in the right fighting condition, I faced it against the bismark several times. The most recent battle against it was a clear victory for the Montana with only a slight list and only one main battery destroyed.

I could write another paragragh about the building of it but that another story.

Before I get into specks I want to make a huge shout out to my brother who did all the programing for the ships 70+ guns and AI

Lets start with armor.
The main armor belt in the hull is 3 meters thick above the water line, and has an aditional 3 torpedo blists below the water line making 6 meters thick there. There is also varying armor through out the ship, I believe all turret wells have two meter thick armor. Ammo storage is devided into three parts. Each has more than 2 meters of armor. Same with the AI.
Moving onto the armament. The main guns consist of 12 406.4mm (16 in) guns in four turrets. The secondary weapons are a line up of 20 long range, high accuracy 5 inch guns in duel turrets, 5 on each side. There are many medium anti aircraft weapons lining the ship of 40mm and 4 barrels per mount. Light AA is purly asthetic as my computer trys to kill itself whenever I ask it to load all of those spin blocks.

One of the range finders turns, as well as both of the radars (fore and aft). the ships interior is fully accessable by the player (you can go wherever you want in the ship). Most interior asthetic lies in the bridge which includes the armored bridge the navagtion room/ the captains battle quarters. Although not designed to look realistic, the bowels of the ship are accessable for some of the ships important systems such as the engines and turret pits. The main turrets themselfs have interiors but aren't much because there is only so much you can cram into such a small space.

The speed of the ship is around 20m/s in Dangerous Waters and 7.4 in regular/Neter

My brother and I really enjoyed building the ship. It is so much fun to sail around, expectially when the ship is sailing to an impending battle miles away. I encourage you to take in the views of the sea and the ship itself as there is no better game to do it in. I really hope you enjoy the ship as much as we do!

Also me my brother and Natalie, have made a steam group. If you'd like to keep up to date on our crations or ask us some questions about ship building, feel free to join!

when you boot up FtD, you'll be greeted by the menu, the third or forth tab over should be the communities tab. I believe you then go to workshop and then subscriptions (something like that). eventually you'll get to a menu where you can select what workshop subscriptions you want to download to the game and what to save them as. let me know if you still have any questions.

its really in its opening stages, about half of the hull is done, super structure is outlined and I largely have the main guns and secondaries designed. I'll throw a few photos up to my profile so you can check that stuff out there.

Indeed.

Also, I look forward to this new one whenever it’s released, how far along is it?

ikr? I was recently looking back at this one because I have a new one in the works and inspite of its looks (considering its pretty inaccurate) it hasn't aged all that poorly

Feels weird that this is over 6 years old now, still holds up pretty well to this day in spite of the endless updates since

Yes, Most blueprints did show it having a north Carolina type bridge, but like the Iowa would probably have its bridge changed to something similliar.

the montana was never depicted as having a glass bridge, it was an exposed citadel like all US battleships preWW2, of course she was canceled not long into the war and before the glass bridges took of on the Iowa and South Dakota classes

I can edit stuff, just saying, most of the time most models show it being one peice of glass at the bridge, but I should just stop nick picking and make it happen my self :steamsalty:
