Semispheres now part of Indie Megabooth at GDC 2016!
Release date: Early 2016

The Game
Semispheres is a single-player puzzle game with a stealth theme.

You get to simultaneously control two characters in connected parallel realities. The game can be played using the keyboard (with dual WASD/arrow keys clusters) or using a controller.

Game modes
The game features a main story mode, and as the player progresses through this story they will be granted abilities such as ping (distract), portals, side swap, teleport, and guard transfer.

There is also a timed mode in which you can attempt to speed-run individual levels or the entire game. While some levels are harder than to complete than others, requiring simultaneous operation of both characters, even the simpler puzzles will require nimble hands if the player wants to achieve a good time.

The game embodies duality in several different ways.

The title "Semispheres" symbolizes the two complementary sides of the brain.

The two halves of the screen are identical and connected - think of them as overlapping realities. This results in a very interesting feeling when playing the game, with the two sides being mentally mapped to a single playing field.

The dual character control is intuitive yet can still be challenging when having to perform dissimilar movements on both sides.

Music and sound effects have been custom-crafted to embrace the duality of the game, with each side’s respective movements affecting the soundscape in different ways.

Semispheres tells the tale of a friendship between a boy and his robot, and will be presented via a series of comic strips as the player progresses through the game. Levels will be grouped in clusters rather than presented linearly, with progress in the story unlocking access to the next set of levels.

The game features minimal text so will be translated into as many languages as possible.

The Team
The team behind Semispheres consists of:
  • Radu Muresan - game design, programming, art
  • Siddhartha Barnhoorn (Antichamber, Out There) - audio
  • Alex De-Gruchy - narrative design
  • Lyndsay Wasko - concept art, in-game story illustrations

had fun playing this at your live demo in Chinook mall in Calgary!
The video doesn't do the game justice..while most of the stuff shown in the video looks very simple, this one really made me think as I worked my way through the 20 or so demo levels.
