It was a dark day for the Demons last time these teams played, a 64-point shellacking at the MCG proving to be one of the lowest points in what’s been a hellish few years for the Melbourne faithful.

Greater Western Sydney on the other hand have won their last three encounters against Melbourne by an average of 41 points.

Tom McDonald was best afield for Melbourne last week with 26 disposals and 12 marks, while skipper Nathan Jones wasn’t far behind with 25 disposals, six tackles and a goal.

Jones averages 27 touches against the Giants – his best tally against any side – so the Demons will be looking for another big performance from the veteran midfielder.

Lachie Whitfield got his season off to an excellent start, racking up 31 possessions, 11 marks and a goal against the Saints last week. The former number one draft pick averages 25 disposals, seven marks and a goal against the Demons. He’ll be a crucial cog in the Giants’ midfield machine.

Melbourne got through last week unscathed and look set to welcome back veteran midfielder Bernie Vince and key forward Chris Dawes. But after a comprehensive performance last week, spots in the Dees best 22 will be at a premium.

Greater Western Sydney on the other hand look unlikely to make any changes to their side. Key defender Tim Mohr played in the reserves for the first time since tearing his ACL, but will probably spend another week or two in NEAFL before re-joining the team.

Prediction
Melbourne looked like a new team in their excellent win over Gold Coast a week ago, and will head into this clash full of confidence.

Last week on the other hand was perhaps the first time in club history the Giants have won a game when clearly playing below their best.

This should be a cracker, but away from the ‘G the Giants should get over the line.

Giants by 13 points."
