Its a Quick look in how to build a real
Steam Machine
. What I recommend here in this guide are recomended because they work and have been tested . All the parts work with out flaws or problems, Bugs and problems have been eliminated for all of the hardware I suggest and that you see in the pictures. I link you to The
SteamOS
download. At the bottom of the page.
I made this guide with the information and test I did .I Only refrer things That I have tried and what is fact. Only used what Steam suggested and continued from there . What I show here is what works best from the Item I choose to use. Plus Its what the Ads of Steam Machines are useing as well.

Except for the open air box was scraps that worked great also.

Advise and how to DIY
UnReal-4-Life Steam Machine Guide
STEAM MACHINE build your own .
My first build

What Hard ware do you need..? Advise before we start . dont go off base and then complain. ATI and AMD I can not recomend for making a machine. Reasons. are not personal or one sided. Its just a fact that Steam OS Is a intel nvidia base writen from the beginning. and works better. Plus I will guide you to installing Staem OS Stand alone verson

Looks First of all it has to be perfect. No BS or Fancy Back yard modifications. This is the case they like and use .It is the sorce of 75 % of evry single machince out both. Its what you need to make a ligit version. link it lol

There is a smaller one steam used with its 300. prototypes. Can also be found in that link under SilverStone tek

HA HA I felt like starting this. The SteamMachines out there have prices that are a joke. and sometimes well most of the time PC dudes like our selfs have good spare parts and dont really need to go out and buy one. BUIlLD IT!

The only thing I have noticed about the Store bought 3rd party Steam Boxes are that some of them have really nice cases. I will point out some good cases you may want to use. I like the mini itx cases with a pcie riser to angle your video card 90 degrees to fit a full sized graphics card and some of them even come with a low profile cpu fan.
I got a nice Case on amazon for 50 bucks.
Then a itx motherboard w/intel chipset z77 3rd gen 1155 cpu socket .100 bucks
Sense your building a steam machine you dont need over clocking we want smooth good loking graphics that always work and do not glitch. so overclocking your items I dont recommend. With that in mind you can find a 1155 cpu that will do good.

You can find a i3 or i5 3rd gen for great price now days.
I got a intel 3222 for 105 bucks new.
8 GB stick of ddr3 ram 60 bucks.

and then I got a 600watt atx power supply for 52 bucks.
very important is the microsoft pc xbox 360 controller kit 49.bucks

357 bucks so far. That is fantastic price. up to this point.
For me that was all I needed I had Graphics a card not being used..

I found that a NVidia GTX560 2GB works great also a 760 660 780 and 960 are all great to use.
any thing that GTX 560-*60 and above with at the very least 2GB of DDR5 VRAM will be great.
I dont recommend The 750 or 650 and any gtx *50 or lower. They just cant do it good enough to make a satified user.

So to make you smile and very happy I recommend getting a Nvidia GTX 760 or 960 2GB-4GB that will keep your budgit just around 650 bucks. see this next example layout i did last night.
Notice :This is the case i used. By the way its the same as 2 of the Steam Machines in the steam ad.I feel spyed on lol. Silverstone Tek Mini-ITX DTX Computer Case with PCI-E Riser ML07B

Nearlu all the cases are by Silverstone Tek and easily found online.

SteamOS Free
no windows needed or any other software.

This link will give you your SteamOS download and hot to install instrauctions.

To be cont.........

Listing Of Parts I have used.

Intel i7 935 frist Gen CPU
ASUS LGA 1366 motherboard
DDR3 three way 2GB (6GB)
EVGA NVidia GTX 2GB 5GB DDR3 in SLI

Night Hawk is they only one for me.
  • Network is key to any Steam Machine .
  • You can not have a good exp w/o a great network.
  • I tried many home network items.
  • I strongly recommend a NetGear Night Hawk 1900 or better.
  • Also hard wire soulutions Alternate I can also recommend the PowerLine AV500.

If you build this or buy one from the ads I say you need a night hawk no other router will do.

Thank you about the table. My pops made that in 1977 with a fallen down redwood tree and 5 gallons of varnish dumped on it all at once. I should put it on a new table no ones gonna see the steam machine. lol
