Verify Game Cache Intergrity
First check that any files in your install have not been corrupted.

1. Load Steam.
2. From the Library section, right-click on the game and select Properties from the menu.
3. Select the Local files tab and click the Verify integrity of game cache... button.
4. Steam will verify the game's files - this process may take several minutes.
Admin Permissions
If you run with User Account Control enabled, then you may have to set the game and the config app to run as admin in order for it to work correctly.

In steam, right click on Stock Car Extreme in your library list and select properties. Then on the Local Files tab, click browse local files.

Do this for both GSC.exe and GSC Config.exe, right click on the application, properties. On the Compatibility tab, tick Run this program as administrator.

IMPORTANT: Do not enable compatibility mode or it will not run!

IMPORTANT 2: Some times this is not necessary and enabling it can stop the game from running! So if it does not fix your problems disable it until you have have tried all of the following suggestions.

Turn Off Compatibility Mode for Steam in Windows 7
(Taken from: http://joshmccarty.com/2012/01/turn-off-compatibility-mode-for-steam/ )

Sometimes when Steam crashes or there is a problem with it (or a game running from it) Windows 7 thinks that Steam needs to run in compatibility mode. This is a problem, because Steam doesn’t need to be in compatibility mode and shouldn’t be. Compatibility mode can cause issues with some games.

Unfortunately turning this off isn’t as simple as right-clicking on the Steam shortcut (or even the steam.exe file), viewing the Compatibility tab, and unchecking the Run this program in compatibility mode for option.

There's a quick fix by editing the registry.

  • Go to the Start menu and type “regedit” into the search box and press Enter. If you have UAC enabled you’ll need to click Yes to continue.
  • Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers and delete the entry for the steam.exe file.

  • You should also see if there is an entry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE in the same location and delete it as well. Failing that, check in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Compatibility Assistant\Persisted.
  • Restart your computer. Steam should no longer run in compatibility mode.
Install Latest Graphics Drivers
If you are unable to get the game to load at all, then installing the latest graphics card drivers has fixed the issue for some people.

Download Nvidia Graphics Card Drivers here: http://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/index.aspx

Download ATI Graphics Card Drivers Here: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download
.NET Framework 3.5
Some Windows 8 / 8.1 installs may have issues with the installation of Directx9, due to their lack of .NET Framework 3.5

To fix this you need to enable .NET Framework 3.5. Take a look here for how to do so.

https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh506443%28v=vs.110%29.aspx

And then run dxsetup.exe from the support folder of the game. After this try rerunning GSC Config and then the Game.
False Anti Virus Detection
It's been known that after an update anti virus software can lock down the application and prevent it from running. Sometimes simply adding exceptions is not enough and you have to completely disable your antivirus.

Webroot is often reported to cause this. This can be fixed until they whitelist any updates by disabling the "Real Time Shield" under PC Security
Game Won't Start Post Update
Sometimes in an update there are changes to the rfms. This can mean that if your profile referenced the old non existent one it can cause problems.

You should blank the default rfm to load in your profile:

Userdata\<Playername>\<Playername>.PLR

And set the Game Description line as follows:

Game Description="" // The current mod file (*.RFM) to load
3rd Party Mods Breaking the Game
It appears there are some 3rd party mods out there that may break the game. They install shaders which break the default content.

Check the folder Gamedata\Shared.

Inside this folder there should only be a 'coreshaders.mas' archive.

First try deleting any other files that maybe in there, then if that still doesn't work delete all files and reverify the game cache to download the correct 'coreshaders.mas' from Steam.
Further Issues?
If the above solutions have not solved the problems, then please post requesting some help.

Make sure to include the following information so we can help you effectively though.
  • PC Specification
  • Describe exactly what you do and when the game crashes
  • Exactly what you have tried to fix the issue
  • Run the game with "-trace=5" in Launch options (right click on the game in the Library - Properties - Set Launch Options") and then post a link to the log file created in "SteamApps\common\Stock Car Extreme\UserData\LOG\trace.txt" -IMPORTANT Remove this option afterwards - it stops the config app from working!

When I open the BATCHTEMPLATETD.INI this is what it says: // Server or administrator can run batch files by chatting "/batch <file>".
// This example is a template based on the last session run, and includes
// drivers who disconnected before the results were written.

It started crashing on me today and for some reason everything is missing from main menu except for the side bar on the left. If i click on single race etc it crashes and locks up pc. I have to keep shutting down the pc to free it. When i go to user data the log shows BATCHTEMPLATETD.INI. Any help would be greatly appreciated since this is the only racing sim that runs smoothly on my old system for now.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

i LOVE THIS SIM!.... i used to play it nonstop,...then i uninstalled for a few years 2 make room for other games, then win-10 came along. So now i tried to reinstall it, and it just opens up to a solid-black-screen, then in the task-manager, i just see a message that says "Not-responding" and it wont close the game its just stuck unless i log out and log back into windows or completely restart the PC (i tried installing the Direct-X redistributable, but windows said its unnecessary due to already having a more current version of it installed... **(ATTN: AUTHOR)** Sent yah a friend-request, & hopefully you're still active on steam and might be able to offer me some advice perhaps? thnx for your time and all your work!

For me it says that gsc.exe could not be found. I looked into the game's files and sure enough, there isn't a gsc.exe.

So, my notebook is new. It has two days. Core i7, 16gb ram, Nvidia Geforce 840m - Lenovo Z40.

I bought the stock car game and I can not start it when I go on Nvidia settings and select the gsc.exe to start by Nvidia Gforce. If I change and leave the game in the integrated video card the game initializes normally. Then I return to select Nvidia and the game does not open, it is appearing that the Gsc Config screen.

I've selected all options Gsc Config already installed DirectX 9 direct folder: stea / steamapps / commom / stock car extreme / support / install.

I have already installed the Net frameworks 3.5.

I do not know what to do to initialize the game through my Geforce 840m (is updated too).

The DirectX worked for me too, also on Windows 10. I did set the game and config to run as administrator too. Might have been the combination of both those things that did the trick.
