Initial Steps
We host all of the official Double Action dedicated servers through SimRai[simrai.com]. The servers are amazing, their customer support is amazing, and they are all very nice people. If you want a dedicated server you should consider renting one through them. And no, I don't get any referrals from them.

  • Download SteamCMD here: https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/SteamCMD
  • Make a directory for the Source Dedicated Server, I called mine "srcds".
  • Put SteamCMD inside that folder and run it. On Windows to run it you just a double click, on Linux it's ./steamcmd.sh
  • Type "login anonymous" but without the quotes, or you can use your own Steam login if you like.
  • Type "force_install_dir ./sdk2013" but without the quotes.
  • Type "app_update 317800" but without the quotes. This will download a whole bunch of crap.
  • Type "quit" but without the quotes.
  • Go into the "sdk2013" folder that should now exist inside your "srcds" folder.
  • Your setup should look like this: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4205810/dab/serversetup.png
  • Ensure that the da_info/cfg and da_info/log directories exist. Otherwise you won't be able to store logs and bans.
Windows Instructions
From here on the instructions are different for each platform. On Windows:

  • Type Windowskey-R. (Windowskey is the button between ctrl and alt on the bottom left of your keyboard.) Type “cmd” and press enter. This should open a command prompt.
  • Type “cd \srcds\sdk2013″ or whatever the directory you made is called.
  • Type “srcds -game dab +maxplayers 10” but, of course, without the quotes.
  • Press the “Start server” button.
Linux Instructions
  • In a command prompt, type “cd ~/srcds/sdk2013″ or whatever the directory you made is called.
  • Type “./dabds.sh +map da_rooftops +maxplayers 10”

Some systems run different versions of glibc. If you experience an "version `GLIBC_2.15' not found" error try running the following commands:

echo "deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian sid main" >> /etc/apt/sources.list apt-get update apt-get -t sid install libc6 libc6-dev libc6-dbg

Afterward, please remember to hash out sid main from your sources list. /etc/apt/sources.list

If you experience a "steamclient.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" error, try running the following command inside your 'srcds' directory:

ln -s linux32/steamclient.so ~/.steam/sdk32/steamclient.so

Wait, nevermind, I already clicked it. But now that the server is "up", I have no clue how to actually play on it.

Why are there complex and stupid guides for making a server actually WORK instead of just having the game make the server online when you press make server? :steamsad:

I've maked the server but my friend can't find it
