Silence is Golden

Description
*The previous version of Silence is Golden was broken. Probably due to my lack of experience with the Creation Kit. It did all sorts of strange things like fail to work when enchanted on a new piece of footwear, or not be enchantable at all. This latest version should be fixed, but I can't gaurantee that it will play nice with saves that used the older version of the mod. That's an unfortunate reality of Skyrim/TES modding in general, dating all the way back to Morrowind. Which is something I can't fix, so just be forewarned.*

What is Silence is Golden, why did you make it, and why is it classified as a cheat?

Well, allow me to answer those three burning questions:

1.) Silence is Golden adds an enchanted pair of footwraps (like the ones you were wearing as a prisoner at Helgen) to the the shore behind the Guardian Stones. The enchantment (originally called "Silence is Golden", but should now be a generic Muffle) is a 1.0 magnitude muffle. They can be found in a Rotting Sack near a tree and some lillies.

2.) I made this humble little plugin because I got sick and tired of murdering Balimund as the "quickest" way to get the muffle enchantment (which is one of the hardest enchantments to get, since it only appears in random loot and as you level, the chances of finding it dwindle due to other more powerful enchantments having a higher likelihood of dropping). So, now there's a surefire way to get the muffle on an item that's easy to get, and easy to ignore if you don't want it. Aside from the enchantment, the Padded Wraps are no different and no more powerful than the footwraps you start with.

3.) It's a cheat because you get an enchanted item for free, with no work, and that enchantment is one of the hardest to get legitimately. It's not game breaking by any means, but it will give you a leg up (even if all you do is disenchant it so you can put it on some leather boots).

Let me know if there are any problems with the mod. It was my first time using the Creation Kit (not my first Kit use though - I've made mods for myself all the way back to Morrowind), and I wouldn't be terribly surprised if I mucked something up.

Just in case you have a difficult time finding the Rotting Sack, I've put pictures up as directions. Should be self-explanatory, but I'm totally willing to answer any questions you might have. Nothing is worse than a mod with no support. Happy trails.

UPDATE: This is just to address the move to paid content on the Steam Workshop. Silence is Golden, and any and all future mods by me will remain free. If there's an option, I may add some sort of "donate what you want" to future mods, but I will never force anyone to pay anything. I've been modding my games with content created by other people for as long as I can remember playing PC games, and something just doesn't sit well with me about this monetization of the modding community. The important thing is, Silence is Golden is here to stay, and yours to use for as long as the Workshop exists (and perhaps even after if I get around to putting it up on the Nexus or something).

UPDATE 2 - Skyrim Special Edition Edition: I have no intentions of updating SiG for Skyrim SE. Even though I have SE, I haven't done more than glance at it a few times, and I think that isn't going to change.

I think "makes you quieter" sums it up. Thanks.

@Minivandiesel, The muffle enchant makes you quieter, the exact nature is described here [www.uesp.net] if you're curious.

Like, it muffles movement even when you aren't crouching?

So does it make you basically invisible?

true.

The mod should be fixed now. I spent pretty much my entire day trying to get it to work properly and figure out what I did wrong, but after some pretty hefty testing in Alftand, I can say that 50 Sneak (no perks)+the foot wraps (or newly enchanted footwear - I tested both) allows you to get semi-regular stealth kills on falmer. I do want to warn that because the enchantment was changed (it's now a generic 1.0 magnitude Muffle) it may/may not play nice with old saves. That's something I can't fix unfortunately, it's just a reality of how Skyrim/Elder Scrolls modding works.

I made sure that when I uploaded it, Skrym.esm was the only master file, and I've been running Skyrim through Mod Organizer lately, so there shouldn't be any hiccups on that front. All testing was done on Vanilla+SKSE+SkyUI only.

Either way, I want to thank everyone for their patience, and I hope that the mod provides what they were looking for and that it's now running at 100%.

Okay, there's definitely something wrong with the mod. I spent two hours running around Skyrim doing various stuff to test the Padded Wraps. They work fine. However, when I disenchanted them, I couldn't use the Silence is Golden enchant on any other items. I'm going to see if I can't remake the mod - I don't know exactly what broke it, or if it was broken to begin with. Considering you were able to enchant your boots with it, we're having different problems. I guess it's time to dive into the Toolkit again.

I will endeavor to check it out as soon as I can. There's 133 current subscribers, and no other comments, so I'm wondering if it might be a mod conflict (which isn't something I'm skilled enough to help with). But, I'm going to boot up Skyrim right now and see if the enchant works.
