Dark Continent

Description
'Gone, gone, gone beyond, gone altogether beyond! O what an awakening! All hail!' The Great Mortality has burned itself out after consuming all Christendom. Muslim pioneers prepare to reclaim the fallow fields and abandoned castles of the deceased Christian monarchs. In the East, great explorers say goodbye to their families and make ready to sail. Beyond the 'known' world, too, the wheels of history are turning...

A remake of BrainMeats' Dark Continent scenario from EUIII's Miscmods. Inspired by The Years of Rice and Salt. Early version - some features missing/unbalanced. Let me know what you think!

MARCH 2017 UPDATE:

Surprise! This isn't dead. Here's my take on this scenario after 3 more years of DLC.

Gameplay Notes

Europe is mostly empty. There are four Christian remnants: Gaeldom, Krakow, Navarra and Aachen. The first three are Tribal Kingdoms, the fourth is a Peasant Republic.

More numerous are the non-Christian "colonizer" countries: Al-Alemand in Germany, Faransa in France, Djata Kurufa in Britain, Magyaristan near Budapest, Skandistan in Sweden, and Ruma in Italy. There are also a few special cases: three countries (Jochi, Qasim's Band and Mahmud's Band) have the Settler Band gov type. This grants them access to native migration mechanics, allowing the player to move into Europe and settle where they like.

All these countries get access to colonists and other bonuses to boost growth through events and modifiers in a system that needs both fleshing out & balancing but seems to be producing reasonable outcomes so far.

Other changes include: a reasonable number of new Native American tribes and some tweaks to the North America setup. The Maori exist as a bunch of OPM tribes down in NZ that can form Aotearoa by decision. Institutions have been tweaked to spawn more "fairly" across the world, tech penalties have been lessened, and non-Western AIs are now encouraged to pick Exploration and Expansion Idea Groups.

There are other issues, mostly cosmetic, and a bunch of unfinished stuff.. but seeing as a new DLC is coming out soon I thought I'd push out what I have while it works. Thanks for your patience, and please share any suggestions or advice, this is far from finished.

if someone actually wants to play this like I did, if you bring back the version then it works, or at least I hope but the map is on the screen at least and it hasn't crashed yet

Any hopes of an update?

The christian nations seem to be gimped compared to their neighbors, to the point where i would call them borderline unplayable. Also the whole papacy bugs out seemingly.

Darn, and I was really looking forward to playing this one, too.

Maybe someone else will take up the mantle?
