How to fix inventory crash

If you can't open the inventory because a cheater gave you a corrupted item then you came to the right place for help! This guide will teach you how to recover your inventory without using shady save or inventory editors that may get you banned.

PS: For this tutorial to work, you need to know what item is causing your inventory to crash, otherwise, this guide won't help you.

What you will need

Before continuing to the next steps, you will need a few things:

• Latest Cheat Engine[www.cheatengine.org] (I fixed mine with 6.3)
  
• List of hexadecimal codes for the items[github.com]

Identifying the glitched/bugged item

Now that you downloaded everything, we can proceed to the next step.

This will help you identify the problematic item:

• The glitched item is an item that a cheater dropped in your world or in his world (while you were summonned as a phantom).
  
• The items dropped are mostly weapons or armors that have been upgraded beyond the possible (I found a Pyromancy Flame +14).
  
• If you picked one of these items the game will crash everytime you open your inventory.

If you know what item is causing the game to crash, we can continue to step 3.

If you couldn't identify the item, this guide won't be able to help you :(

Backing up your save

Before removing the item from your inventory, I recommend you to backup your save file in case anything goes wrong.

1- Open up the "Run..." by pressing the WINDOWS KEY + R (Mine is in portuguese).


2- Type %appdata% and then press ENTER.

3- A window like the following one should open, double-click the Roaming folder.


4- Open up "Dark Souls 2" folder and copy the first folder inside it and paste it in your desktop or other folder you would like to.

Now that your save files have been backed up, we can proceed to the next steps!

Before continuing...

Before continuing, you will have to quit the game (assuming its open), open this guide in a browser of your choice (except Steam Browser) and restart Steam into OFFLINE MODE. It is important to disconnect completely from Steam to avoid being banned.

Now that this guide is open in another browser and Steam is offline, proceed to the next step.

Removing the item

Now that everything is ready, open Cheat Engine, Dark Souls 2 and the Hex list.

Make sure Dark Souls is OFFLINE, if its not, read the previous section.


1- Go to Cheat Engine and click the colored computer on the top left of the program. Select the process DarkSoulsII.exe and click "Open".

2- Pause the game by pressing advanced options on the bottom left and then pressing the double bars sign, click okay.

3- Find the hexadecimal code for your glitched item in the list you downloaded.
4- Check the box "HEX", put the hexadecimal code in the "Value" and click "First Scan".

5- A lot of adresses will appear in the left box, select only the ones that start with 154 and click the red arrow.
6- Select all the adresses in the lower box and change their values to zero.
7- Unpause the game the same way you paused it, wait 5 seconds and go back to DS2. Do not open your inventory, instead, save and quit the game.
8- Launch the game again, select your character and your inventory should open normally, you may now go online and play normally! If your inventory is still not opening and crashing the game, you might have more items that are glitched, repeat the same steps but changing the hexadecimal code for each item, remember to do it OFFLINE or, like I said, you may get banned.
